Still in love with Rolex

I joined this forum in 2005 and haven't posted for over a year. I was surprised that I was able to log on.

In past years, I have owned and flipped four Rolexes. The one I miss the most was my Seadweller, which I had to sell to pay for medical costs in 2009 when I had Prostate Cancer. My Doc thinks there's a few years yet before my EOL, so I guess I am blessed in that regard.

I am now intending to buy another Rolex as it has been a sad long time since I had one on my wrist. Other watches have been and gone as they just don't do it for me like a Rolex.

I am now pretty ancient by WIS standards, probably one of the oldest members on this forum.

I really like the Explorer, I can't say I'm ecstatic about the model with the 24hr hand. Just a bit too flash for a man of my age. A bubble date is irrelevant to me as well.

I would appreciate comments from any member who has bought the new Explorer and what he thinks about it and how it performs.

Cheers

Hi Steve! How are you doing?

I still love Rolex, too... I've tried other brands, but Rolex is the brand I'll always return to.

Steve,

The 216570 is my favorite modern piece and I do not think it's flashy for a man "of your age" let alone any age. In fact, the dial legibility is reason enough for aging eyes.

Performance wise, my 3187 has been incredibly accurate and the watch rides the wrist perfectly. Even though it is a twinlock I often forget it's not a triplock due to its size. If you're still torn on 'flash' then get the black dial... it's what I own.

Welcome back!
Not sure if you're interested in the Exp or the Exp2..?
If you don't care for the 24hr bezel and date then the new Exp1 is worth a look.
Now 39mm with upgraded bracelet and clasp and matte black dial.
Sorry, no pics handy but I suggest a trip to your local AD. They should hopefully have one to check out as well as anything else that might catch your attention.
Happy hunting.

The new EXII42 is a fantastic watch.
I have the white dial model and have had it for over a year now, with great reliability.
The white dial is to me the more perfected interpretation by Rolex.
The watch is exceedingly comfortable even on relatively small wrists due to the flat caseback, a slimmer case than the SubC and the new bracelet with micro adjustment.
The watch is suitable for a person of any age.
The 24hr hand is independently adjustable and provides a second time zone function.
I don't think you could get a better watch from Rolex at the moment irrespective of your age.

Agreed! Can't pry the Explorer II 216570 off my wrist even though I have two other Rolex watches... I only wear the other watches once in a while because I feel sorry for them sitting idle in the safe!

Welcome back. I truely understand where you are coming from.
My wife & I have both been sick for a while. Had to sell my 1675 GMT that I had for 25 years just to get thru the holidays last year.

Now on to the watches. IMHO the Exp 2 is not too flashy.
But the new 39mm Exp maybe what you like.

Wonderful pictures of the Explorer range. Thanks so much guys.

I will be cruising next year, so I hope to find a nice AD so I can see these great watches in reality. Trouble is that I will have to make a choice as they all look good.

The 39mm Explorer seems to be smiling at me from the photo's but who knows what will happen in the shop

Cheers
