First Rolex, First Spottings, First Scratch
I bought my first Rolex two weeks ago - a new SubC. I had one friend in the past that had an old sub, but other than that I knew nothing of Rolexes. I saw my uncle sporting a Rolex at our fourth of July get-together and thought I'd shop for one since I just finished grad school.
Other than happening to see "Rolex" on my uncle's watch, I never would have known anything about spotting a Rolex. Now that I shopped around before and after purchasing my Sub, I have much better awareness - and appreciation. I met a recruiter this week as I've been interviewing trying to nail down employment. The guy had an older Sub on, so I just thought it was cool to have my watch for less than ten days and already meet someone with the same one as me. I never would have known nor cared before what kind of watch the guy had on. We held them side by side for a second and then carried on. I didn't really get people saying that they don't draw much attention to their watches when i first got on the forum, but I think i do now. I bragged to my close family about my watch because I am proud, but to other friends I just don't feel the need to draw attention to it. I know what kind of watch I have on, and it's not just a watch to me - it's a symbol of all my accomplishments in life and all the accomplishments to come. It's a daily reminder of what I'm capable of. And yeah, I got a good scratch in it the first freakin week. Can't stop looking at the scratch. I'm sure I'll get over it soon. I'll try to get a pic up. We need more iPad compatibility! |

It's your first scratch, and won't be your last. Don't worry, you won't care after a few months. And I'm sure this won't be your last Rolex either. You're getting the WIS disease...

Scratches . . .
Put your watch in the sun and shoot a close-up pic . . . You'll see a thousand scratches . . . especially on the polished links/parts But that makes every Rolex unique ;-) HAGWe |

I hate scratches, too, but alas they're impossible to avoid.

Going vintage cured me of scratches. Lol
Don't worry about them, they're totally unavoidable and fretting about them will only diminish your enjoyment of owning such a nice timepiece. Sent from my Droid.

scratches are just battle scars be proud!!!! or if it really bugs you there are many people here who can provide advice on removal and what products use.
tip for the day; DONT use a Cape Cod on the brushed parts of your watch ok - its for polished surfaces only.

I hate scratches too, i use to carry around a cape cod cloth in my pocket, it's was a full fime permanent job, i eventually had to concede defeat, It's impossible to keep it perfect if you wear it, enjoy the watch it's made to be worn,

Welcome to TRF. That was a great intro. You'll find yourself looking at everyone's watch now. You are bitten by the WIS bug. Welcome to the club! The best thing to get you over that scratch is another one. And it will come, dont worry.
Enjoy the watch and your time here.

My first Rolex was a sub as well. Subs take scratches with distinction, they do not show it too bad, they are built like tanks, and as others have posted they add character and do not detract from the watch. Still love my sub and wear it the most often.
Now a scratch on my Daytona, that is a real issue ;-) T |
