Buying advice

Im pretty close to buying a rolex, im torn between a datejust, sub(tt with blue dial) or a gold day date. It will be pre owned not brand new. So what type of things should i be looking for? obviously when it was last serviced but is it mandatory that i buy it with papers etc? Would it better saving up that bit more and getting a sub over a datejust or saving that more getting a day date? I will be wearing it day to day so this is whats swaying me towards the sub?

I personally would get the TT Bluesy Sub. But it's a matter of personal taste and I'm just not that big a Daydate or Datejust fan. If I were going all gold, I'd get the Daytona over the Daydate (which is just what I did).

Of course I can't think of a more classic, recognizable Rolex than a gold DD

I think the date just looks best, at least that is where my money was spent.

Others do look better sometime, but at the end of the day, I am happy with what I have.

You are comparing VERY different watches. Which one do you like best / why??

Nothing is "Mandatory" you have free will. You can buy a used watch in myriad array of accessories - or none. If you think you will resell, you will want as much of the original "kit" as possible. Internet hype or no...you WILL take a hit when you sell if all you have is a watch. That's a fact.

Here are a few things to check for:

Authenticity - if you don't know / trust the seller, have a reputable AD or RSC authenticate - some will not.

Condition - over polishing of the lugs / dings / chips in the crystal, bracelet tightness. All of this will impact sales price.

Accessories - does the seller have all the links? Boxes, papers, serial number on the watch matching the papers

Others will have more tips I am sure.

I love 2 tone. Here's a pic I took of mine today. I'm a big fan of diamonds and liked the idea of having something just a little bit different than the norm. I really liked the weight of the 2 Tone subs with the solid links and ceramic bezel. Much more solid feeling. Also really liked the adjustable clasp. Good luck with your decision!

Day date all the way. Look for thickness/polishing on the lugs, overpolishing on the fluted bezel &crown where the clasp closes. Most of all check the condition/stretch of the bracelet; they are VERY costly to replace.

i like the sub because it seems a solid watch, as in it can withstand anything you throw at it(probably quite literally!) datejust is cheap and cheerful but i dont think would go well with the type of clothes i wear and the day date is beautiful although i dont think i can justify spending 7k for a good condition one, i think its the sub...

Gold shows scratches more readily than steel so if this is a do everything daily watch then I'd vote DJ. As for papers, they're meaningless once the warranty expires.
