Icon7 My watch winder arrived today

Hi Friends, my watch winder arrived today.

I sold my wooden watch-box a few months ago because I culled my collection a little over the years. I wanted something that wound and also had some storage, so this was perfect for my needs. Takes A/C adaptor or batteries for power.

I have two Automatics (IWC/OMEGA) and two quartz Omega's so this is perfect with one slot left over. Just need a Rolex now, don't I?

Has the following settings;
  1. Off/On
  2. Turn clockwise. Rotate for 2 mins and rest for 6 mins then repeat.
  3. Turn counter clockwise. Rotate for 2 mins and rest for 6 mins then repeat.
  4. Turn both counter and clockwise. Rotate for 2 mins in one direction then rest for 6 mins. Rotate 2 mins in opposite direction and then rest for 6 mins. Repeats cycle.
  5. Turn both counter and closewise. Rotate 5 mins in one direction and then 5 mins in opposite. Repeats continuously for 3 hours and then rests for 9 hours. After 9th hours, repeats cycle.

Which setting do you guys think is best for my two autos?

Go to Orbitas web page to see exactly how many turns per day your watches requiers.

Wow! Thanks a lot for this info. Here are my two:

SEAMASTER Planet Ocean:
Caliber 2500
Turn Direct: Both
Turns/Day: 650-800

IWC 3717:
Calibre 79320
Turn Direct: Clock Wise
Turns/Day: 800

Does this mean my IWC wont wind if the winder turns Counter Clock Wise?

The ETA7750 in the IWC doesn't have a reverse wheel and won't wind CCW so just wind CW @ 800 and you'll be fine.

I might just leave it at setting 5 for now. I know it also turns CCW but that wont harm my IWC. I like the idea that it only winds 6 hours a day and rests for 18.

I gotta figure out how many rotations the winder does every minutes and then find out the best setting to suite both watches. Then I'll see if its worth changing the setting.

Thanks for both your helps!

One thing I have noticed, on setting 5, my IWC has lost about 5 secs since Sunday rather than gain its usual +1 secs per day. But I did put in on there completely unwound, wound enough to just set the time to my web-clock. Plus my IWC only winds clockwise also so 50% of the winds on setting 5 did not affect the watch.

I'm not sure about the PO because I hadn't set it for a while and it is usually +5 a day and it was fully wound when I put it on there and its still running about 30 secs fast (but I havnt adjusted the time for a week or so).

I'm going to keep the watches as they are (not wind the IWC anymore than it is) and put it on the winder at setting no.1 for a while.

Ok, after some testing here are the following specs when the winder is on any setting, but I have it on setting 1 a the moment.

Setting 1 - Clockwise rotation
Rotations per minute: 8
Minutes running per day: 360

So the winder does 2880 rotations/spins per day. Both my watches need 800 rotations per day. So I wonder if its worth keeping it on 24/7 or just flicking it on at night before going to bed.

But I'm thinking of putting it back to setting 5 if it keeps my IWC wound well... because at least there is 9 hours of rest so if the watch does reach maximum tension on the over-wind protection, it has 9 hours to rest.

If you would have bought an Orbita winder your problems would have been solved.

Or just manually wind them before wearing.

Ha ha, I could still do it if I wanted too... I dont really see it as a problem, more a of learning the workings for me. I'm quite happy with my winder so far and just learning how it all functions and the effects on a watch... quite interesting really.
