I use call blocking for my verizon cell phone but they don't offer it for landline without a $7.99 a month charge. Didn't know about external devices for blocking calls, I'll have to look into that. Any manufacturers or models you know of?

Believe me Alan, I know, there is no stopping them...

I would love to see telemarketing outlawed. Looking at my phone bills I pay almost $12/month NOT to get calls, yet I probably average 3 per night.

so wait you pay for call blocking but you still get calls? what provider? are they liable to refund the fee if they don't block someone?

Agree with all the above! Its a pain here in Seattle, too! On thing I might add though, and my daughter-in-law (policeperson) confirmed.....if you call in a 911 emergency on your land line, and don't (or can't - as in an illness or a disconnect) leave an address, the land line ID provides a ready link to your address for responders. I suppose the cell phone would do the same thing with its GPS, but it might not do it automatically - or very quickly. As much as I sometimes hate my land line, I guess I'll leave it for the time being.

Qwest is the provider. The $12/month is what I pay for caller ID and something called security screen. Since I don't pay this bill I haven't look at it in years. It looks like security screen is just a paid version of anonymous call rejection. I think I'll be making a phone call.

Thanks

My land line is hooked up to my fax machine, ringer is turned off. I see telemarketers calling in all the time, they get a nice fax tone in their ear, then it hangs up. People I WANT to take calls from have my cell phone number.

What if you don't know that you want to hear from somebody, they have no way of leaving you a message?
