iPad Mini - Thoughts?

Evening folks,

So I sold my iPad 2 a few months ago as its size was becoming a bit cumbersome for my morning commutes into the City, and naturally I am quite tempted by the iPad Mini.

Has anyone here bought one of these? Any impressions/opinions to share?

Thanks

3G is out soon and no doubt a retina version will appear next year.

Returned mine yesterday after trying it for about 2 weeks. It is light and small. But the lack of retina and LTE in the model I had convinced me that it is not the right one for me.

Getting one once they're available.

See, I'm hoping that as I've never had retina on an iPad that the resolution on the mini will more than suffice. Just a question of availability at the moment, they're still sold out!

If you've never used the retina display, it might not be a major issue. If you have, the mini is a big step down.

A trick I have heard is to go online at apple.com at 10pm local time and order it online. Select store pick up and that can save you one at a store. I haven't tried it but could be worth a shot.

I agree with Steve Jobs, the Regular sized iPad is perfect size for reading etc. Even though mini is smaller you still cannot carry in pocket or on belt so you need to carry just like regular size. Plus with regular size you get benefits of bigger screen.

I just don't see need for mini. The iphone is for the times you do need something small/portable.

My two cents....

Works great for me. Used it on launch day at the track and it also fit in cargo pants pocket.

Ran database and preso's plus did reports and pulled driver registration data off servers.

Went cheap - 16 GB WiFi. Cloud will hold bulk of my data (64 GB) and will keep iPad2 + MBA.

Too big to fit in my pocket, and too small to carry around under my arm without dropping it....

The resolution, however, is the same aspects as the iPad 2, however on a significantly smaller screen. Since I got my iPhone 5, I can't even bare to look at my iPad 2... It's so grainy!!!

iPad mini is awesome! Little unnecessary tho.

They were available at local Apple Store 2 was ago. I just asked for 64GB model and it was readily available. Maybe the LTE models are not yet stocked up, but they do not sell as much as iPhones.

Totally agree. Regular iPad is the perfect size. Smaller than a piece of paper so fits in a portfolio, but big enough that I can watch movies, etc.

I think it's ok but IMO I will not buy another iPad until flash is supported. There are tons of pages fully supported for hml5

Btw this is posted from an iPad

I have an iPad 3 as my daily use tablet. I ordered a 3G 32gb IPad mini in slate as an always connected, carry around town device, mainly for the form factor. It will arrive on Tuesday. I think it will be good for Navigation in cars, holding lots of music, and reading books and emails. I don't plan to use it much at home, since I would use the IPad 3. Will take some nice photos of both and give an opinion once I get the mini setup.

Uhhh Gents,

Its called marketing.

They have pushed the boundaries for years and I think are starting to hit the limits of what they can create and release. If they put out the perfect ipad mini they wouldnt have anything to sell you in 3 months.

I also don't get the apple craze, like for example you have a iphone4s and the second the iphone 5 hits millions have to line up and buy it for a slightly bigger screen size and a slightly better camera??? and spend 400-750 in the process? I don't get it.

Whats the difference between the iphone 5 and the ipad mini, Besides the size and the fact you can make calls on the iphone?

x2

Apple's problem now is that there are much better phones and O/Ses out there. This isn't 2007 anymore. The iPhone5 and iOS6 aren't innovative. Yet fanboys still line up for these products. The 5s will be no different than the 5 for the most part, but the 6 is really going to have to get with the times or I think you will start to see ever larger numbers drop off from the bangwagon. But hey, if you line up the top phones side by and side and give them each a fair and honest shake and determine that the iPhone is best for you - god bless. It's the people that blindly scream out for an iPhone (or whatever Apple's next product is) that I will never understand...

I was in the AT&T store the other day and played with the HTC One X+ and the Nokia 920 and was blown away - then I went and messed around with the iPhone5 - the user experience on it was akin to a Fisher Price toy... A Microsoft kiosk even had some Surfaces to play with. I don't know why you'd buy an iPad after using the Surface.

And today there are many tablets around to equal the Ipad mini or its bigger brother at a far cheaper price and more user friendly connectivity.Although Apple make fine products and good customer service, today if you labeled dog poo and called it the Ipoo, I am sure the Apple fanboys would be queuing up to buy it.

Of course there is no retina ... how are they going to sell you the new one next year otherwise.

They are adopting the sad photo industry strategy of giving you one feature and removing 2 ... therefore building their upgrade path ... If I were in the market I'd probably buy a Kindle Fire for 200 bucks ...

I am curious as to how many of these mini's they will actually sell. It might be the sweet spot between the iPhone and the iPad however I doubt it.

With the Surface coming out, I think they will have a run for their money. Plus, as mentioned above, without supporting Flash, I don't see much market penetration.

What is the next gadget they are going to talk many of us into?

I wonder the same thing. The iPad is really not that big, and I just do not see the point of Ipad Mini. I have only heard girls talking about and wanting the ipad mini due to its size.

The lack of flash certainly hasn't hindered the sales of the iPhone or standard iPad...

Not to mention the fact that flash is going the way of the dodo.

Seriously thought about it, then decided against it for now. Purely because the retina version must be due soon.

I think I will survive with iPad 2 and iPhone 5 at the minute.

But who knows, I may wake up tomorrow morning and wanting one all of the sudden

I'd go for the wifi only as I can use my iPhone as a personal hotspot when on the go if I want to.

I greatly prefer 7" tablets over the larger ones for my purposes.

While I wish they'd use their smartphones or real cameras instead, I hope the silly people who feel the need to use tablets to take pictures will at least switch to 7" so that they block less of the view for the rest of us.
