Tag Heuer's Version of the Blue TT Sub?
I didn't even realise this was out there. Anyone know if other companies have done this as well for the TT Blue Sub?

There are a ton of watch companies out there that "copy" any\all of the Rolex watches... but there is only one true Rolex!!

I wonder what it costs? I would rather have a SS Rolex like a Sub or GMT than a TT "other". That's just me.

1. Seiko ( at every model even copied ceramic bezel with a silly silicon bezel) 2. Tag Heuer copies Rolex watches and they are terrible, better to buy a Folex.

Even thou I really like my TAG, I would never buy one again at MSRP or even deeply discounted, I would only buy one at a FIRE SALE, and it would be a stretch at that. I have come to learn after buying dozens of nice but "re-sale / trade" useless watches that I was actually throwing away money. Remember, before your systolic BP rises with my words, I am using my personal optic to express myself. Over the years I have bought dozens of $200 , $300, $500, $700 watches and basically I'm stuck with them for life. (After understanding more about watches) now I will save my money and only buy OMEGA, ROLEX, CARTIER, ETC... because at least you have something to show for your money when you want to get rid of it later. I am content on buying used BUT in nice condition watches so don't think: well gee, not everyone can buy one of those watches. I think you can find a nice second hand OMEGA for around $1,400.00 (maybe even like new condition / NOS / BNIB). No doubt about the quality of a TAG, but now I am curious about the prices?????!!!!! I bought my TAG years ago, like 9 years ago, and I paid $1,150.00 for it in PANAMA at "NAT MENDEZ" jewelers. At the time of the purchase, I figured I had cut a "fat hog in the arse" and I had pulled off the deal of the century! I probably would be lucky to get $200.00 for that watch today. |

If you like a style, buy the original. I've owned the invicta TT Sub copy, a few folexes, and other Swiss'. Now that I own a real TT Sub it's clear to me why people spend the money on the real thing. There is no comparison. Tag makes a good watch but I would spend the money ($1,500) on an Oris (best deal in town) or an Omega before I would try to "look" like I was wearing a TT Sub JMHO

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, its true. But if I were going to buy a TT blue watch, it would be a 16613 as a matter of necessity. Don't get me wrong, a Tag is a very cool, high quality watch. Nothing approaches the real deal though! Just my 0.02.

I've actually held that TAG in person. In all fairness to TAG, the finish and quality is very good.....but I would never buy a TAG.
However, it has a good market in Australia and NZ.....and TAGs seem to do very well in this part of the world. JJ

I didn't expect Tag to make an exact copy of the blue ROLEX. I think Tag Heuer is a decent company with many beuatiful models and doesn't deserve to copy other brands models...

Tag Heuer has done a remarkable job marketing their watches. Brand recognition is good, and they are known as a luxury watch (albeit entry level). I am sure many of us started this addiction with a Tag Heuer as a "gateway drug/watch."
TAG Heuer played a part in my journey to Rolex, and while I have iterated this some in a previous post, bear with me: Back in 2000 when my dad retired, he was given a Tag Heuer 2000 Sport diving watch, as a gift from his protoge. There was some relationship between him and Saphir Engineering who makes watch crystals in Switzerland. Prior to this, my dad was wearing Casio digital watches, and used to wear his 1962 Mido until the rotor broke. Same company had relationship with Mido/Swatch who fixed his watch for free. Another reason my father liked his new watch is because he also has an old Heuer stopwatch from his auto racing days, which is a very nice timepiece too! At any rate, Dad loves his watch, and it got me thinking that I wanted a nice Swiss watch too. In '92 I had bought a Citizen Automatic, and enjoyed wearing it. I was set to buy a TAG myself, but after doing more research, was led to Rolex. However, at the time I would not justify the cost of a Submariner, so I ended up with my SMP. However, without my dad's TAG acquisition, I may have never come this far! IMO, TAG is to Swiss watches what VW is to German Cars. Omega is more like Audi, and Rolex is the Daimler Benz or BMW of the watch world! I would much rather own an Audi/BMW/Mercedes then a VW!

I saw that watch in person and I wasn't impressed at all. It's too sporty for my taste, and to be honest, I think it looks a little cheap.
I think the design of the TT Blue Sub is pretty much perfect. There are only three things I would change: the clasp, the new hairspring and I'd love solid center links. |

I own a couple of Tags that I bought more than a decade ago. In general they are high quality and make great diving watches.
Of course, I'm not a fan of the Aquaracers that are more than a little too closely modeled after Rolexes. I like to dive with Tags because I know they are reliable and if I lose it in the water, I'm not out any real money ($1,000-$1,500). The Aquaracer in the original post is just silly. Who the heck would ever want gold (plated or otherwise) on a diving watch???? |

I had a Tag prior to my SD and it was a great watch that handled 10 years of abuse no problem. I wore it 24/7 and have been diving with it a couple hundred times. I never took it off for any activity except mnt biking b/c it beat the crap out of my wrist and I live a pretty active lifestyle.
When I bought my SD this summer the sales person was a younger guy and he made a point of showing me his Tag that was a Sub/SD "inspired" model and he was saying how he couldn't wait to get the SD. |

You could say the same thing about Rolex, the Blancpain 50 Fathoms tested and on sale in 1952, the first Rolex sub prototype 1953 Wonder if Rolex got there Idea for the Sub,from the Blancpain, they are very similar even down to the explorer type dial in the first subs.In my book homage watches are fine with me,and many many manufactures watches look similar too many others

I don't think there should be so much "hate" on Tag Heuers....They make a nice watch for the money, and I certainly don't see how my Aquaracer bites on it's design from a Submariner. Some of the Aquaracers do have a resemblance to the Sub, and quite frankly I find them to be the least attractive (case in point the TT blue that started this thread).
I bought this Tag two years ago duty free in the Virgin Islands from a Tourneau, and have been incredibly happy with my purchase. I paid $1250 out the door, and it was my first "nice" watch. It doesn't keep time as well as a Rolex (runs about +5 a day), but I am completely satisfied with my purchase. I never intend to sell it (even if I could double my money). (I'm borrowing this picture as a reference, I don't own a Sub) |

I purchased the S/S version of that model many years ago, took it back and bought the Omega 2531.80 instead. Lets face it I should imagine most of us have purchased "Rolex Sub tribute watches"
I've had Sub lookalikes in 1) Many Seikos - They did a lovely Kinetic model with Jubilee style bezel. 2) Grovana 3) Steinhart - Made by Grovana 4) Avia - Did a stunning Sub lookalike called Polar Star 5) Castle - Crap

It looks a bit like TT blue Sub,but not too much to be called "replica" or "hommage".I mean, imagine it with different color dial.Anyway,I`m not big fan of TAG watches, but tey`re quite O.K. to me.And let`s face it,I think that 1500$ is a lot of money for quartz diving watch!I mean, you could buy Breitling Super Ocean(BTW,automatic,a million times better professional diving watch than TAG) for the same amount.
Or even Tudor Hydronaut! |

I find it strange that a company that developed and designed very unique watches in the 70's such as the Monaco, Monza, Autavia, Carrera, Calculator, Silverstone etc, all great designs, releases watches nowadays that more or less resembles their competitors. Very sad. Check out the back catalogue of vintage Heuers, stunning designs, really.
