Hi everyone,

I am new to this Forum and have enjoyed reading the various post by members.This is my first post.

I will be travelling to Hong Kong around 27 December and was hoping to purchase a SS Daytona with a white face.

What are my chances of finding one from an AD in Hong Kong?

What is the price-range I can expect to pay for the SS Daytona?

Also, I would be grateful for any recommendations of any good ADs in Hong Kong.

Daytona's are relatively easy to find in HK. Most ADs have a high turnover, with HK being one of the best places in the world to buy a Rolex, so they have good allocations of the coveted watch. Singapore too. I just called my Singaporean AD, walked in, checked the watch and then walked out with a brand spanking new Z series black face beauty.

In HK, and elsewhere, you must look serious when asking about the Daytona as they are mostly kept in the safe in the store. And you should also be prepared to pay cash as that would sway them more quickly. I'm not sure what MRSP is there for Daytona, but it will be sure as hell less than Australia.

Yes, you would not have a hard time finding an SS Daytona in HK, but you would have a VERY hard time finding one at MSRP!

I got my sea dweller there. they have a few stores but there are heaps of AD's in HK. They gave me 10% off straight away, and everywhere should do that. In Australia my SD is around $7500 AUD with the discount it was $5000 AUD in HK!!!!
I think you'll find they don't give you the BS that alot of local AD's do because they move so much stock. They wont be snobby about it. here they'll say how rare... only have one....would take 3 months to get.....blah blah, all BS. there the guy reaches behind the counter and grabs a box from a pile of the ones you want! He did with the SD's anyway! So I say go HK all the way, why buy a Rolex anywhere else, even with flights included form anywhere in the world it will probably be cheaper!

For an SD, no problem but for a Daytona I highly doubt it unless you are speaking of paying a premium for it.
No connection with ADs would get you MSRP price of Daytona in Hong Kong yet you can still pay premium for the watch and get it fairly easy.

Yeah, you do have a good point there. I guess the SD is much more standard stock. fair call.

I had purchase a TT Black Sub way back in 1994 from Zurich Watch Co. on Nathan Road.

Good chaps to deal with and I did get an excellent discount too. I had paid cash. Those guys are not very fond of plastic!!

In HK, you can find one easily, but not at MSRP. Last time I check, if you want one instantly, it costs about USD$12000.

Like JJ, I purchased my Rollie from The Zurich Watch Co on Nathan Rd. I got a no BS 12% discount.

It's a small, busy shop. I got there just after they opened and there were two other sales already going on. ...the service was 'no nonsense', but that's how I like to buy - so not a problem for me.

The salesguy literally turned round and opened a cupbaord stacked with Rolex boxes, selected the EXP 11 I wanted. Quick check over, 5 minutes to fit and away we went....

I paid with plastic and it took a while to get authorisation - I have heard that paying with cash is the best way - but I also heard that they will refuse tatty bills !

Many thanks for the helpful tips. I can't wait to get my first Rolex. I don't mind paying a premium for the SS Daytona but I wouldn't like to be ripped off.

By the way, i will also be travelling to Singapore and Bangkok so if anyone knows of a SS Daytona which sells for less than $US12,000 in those cities, your recommendations would be geratly appreciated.

You will have no problem getting a daytona at USD$12,000 in Hong Kong.
The premium market price is about USD$11,500.
Just make sure you don't let them rip you off with a higher price than USD$12,000, a lot of those sales would price it up more when you are not local.

Also, be careful not to be acting too happy and excited when you see the daytona, the sales can read that too and price it up. Just be calm, there are a lot of ADs and grey market stores that sell the daytona, just walk inside and ask. They usually store the daytonas inside the store.

Since it sounds like an MSRP Daytona is not in the cards, why not just buy here in the USA at about the 10.5 to 12K range. Without a cost savings, might as well just buy in the USA. The two reputable grey market USA companies can get you one instantly.

Like someone posted earlier, its easy to get a new SS Daytona....just not at MSRP. :)

Plus, you don't have to worry about bringing them back to the US through the customs.

i was in hong kong 3 weeks ago. as stated above, they're all over the place. going price was around 88000 hk dollar, max discounted already. i think thats around 11++k US $.

I was in Hong Kong a couple of weeks ago. Went into many, many shops, including ones mentioned earlier (e.g., Zurich). None of them had the SS Daytona. One Emperor store told me that they had a wait list of over 300 people. I have no idea if they were playing around with me, but I certainly didn't get that feeling. The reaction I received was very similar to the reaction I get when I look around with ADs here in the States; a playful chuckle and a good luck.
