70 sub

Hello everyone.
My father passed away last year and left me his watch. I tried to do some research and this is what I came up with. It is a 5513 ser 25xxxxx which I believe is 1970. He had an aftermarket bracelet on it. Im planning on putting a nato band on. The crystal has a few scratches on it. The watch has dirt and grime on it so it needs a good clean. Overall I believe the watch is in good condition. I was hoping someone can verify it if it looks genuine and get peoples opinion on it.

Thanks

That image is way too small to make any kind of assessment. Please post larger images and more images as well. Between the lugs, from the sides, and try a macro of the dial.

Sorry to hear about your loss. If you post larger pics I am sure an expert here can help.

Thanks. Can anyone let me know if there should be a washer under the bezel. I took off the bezel to clean and there was nothing.

Beautiful. Great memories to bring with you everyday.
There should be a tension spring under the bezel. It looks like a thin flat washer bent to resemble a Pringle's chip. Not surprising if its missing, as when the bezel gets knocked off due to a fall or drop, the spring is hard to find. Does your bezel spin quite freely?

Yes it does. I would like to find a vintage pearl too for the bezel. Would I be able to find a spring on eBay?

Possible. I would also check out the "For Sale" section on this forum, and ones like it. You also may want to post a Want To Buy ad in the "for sale" forums and see if anyone responds.
Good luck! And post pictures when complete!!

Great thanks for the help. I've seen a lot of people talk about polishing. Is this something I should think about or avoid.

Polishing is really up to you, its your watch. Personally I think yours looks pretty good as is. The watch will get scratches and bumps along the way, so if you choose to have it look nice and new, it will eventually go back to where it is now.
My 1680 was polished about 10 years ago, and I have not had it done again. Looks good to me with battle scars and all.

Suggest you don't send it to Rolex for service. They will likely install new hands/dial/bezel etc and destroy the sentimental value, not to mention actual value. Nice old watches with original parts are very desirable no matter what condition.

Sorry for your loss. I'm glad you have something to remember him by.

That looks nice. It's generally not a good idea to send to Rolex, use a knowledgeable independent. Enjoy it as is.

It looks really nice. Mine is 2.4million and it's 1969 . Just cleaning the crystal will make a huge difference.

If it was mine, I would not have it polished, as it would remove all the digs & scratches that were made while your father wore it.

As Mike advised just polish the crystal

Sorry for your loss. As others have said this is a wonderful memory / keepsake. I would keep it original. No polish, clean the plastic and wear it!

Nice sub - sorry for your loss. Get the bezel sorted and maybe a pearl, and don't polish your dad's marks out of it.

I'm sorry for your loss. You have a really nice watch that will serve as a great, constant reminder of your father.

Regarding a tritium pearl, I just picked one up from Steve Mulholland. If you look up Mulholland Time, you'll find his site and contact info. He had 6...maybe some are left.

Mike

🔝 Steve is a great guy, I would contact him 100% ! I would not change the Bezel on the watch . Lots of people wish they had a bezel that looks like that !, but if you do change it pm me . I'm 1 of those people . Lol .

There are lots of nicknames for those bezels (ghost, grey , faded, etc)
