Thoughts on this 5512

Hi All,

I'm fairly new to vintage. My daily wearer is a white 1680, and I recently picked up a 5513. Now I'm getting the bug for a 5512, and I wanted to get your thoughts on a certain one before I consider buying it.

But before I run afoul of any forum rules, can I simply post the sale link to the watch? Or should I copy and paste the photos?

Okay,
I just realized the seller's alias is on these photos, so if I'm violating any forum rules or etiquette, please by all means let me know.

I'm just very hot on this watch for a daily wearer (not an investment or collector's piece) and I'd like to hear your opinions on whether it looks like a good example, or should I hold out for something else.

The hands have some damage
Some of the markers are spotted
Do these things bother you???

They don't bother me too much.
In fact, I'm looking for a watch that I can wear for a while, and then send into RSC for new hands and Luminova dial. I know, some consider this sacrilege, but I love the Luminova service dials.

If that's the case, do you think this one would make a good candidate?

I believe if you send it to RSC they will only replace parts with original as came new on the watch. You would have to send the watch to an independent watchmaker to perform the overhaul if you wanted later style hands or watch face such as Luminova. The good news is there are many good independent certified watchmakers that excel at Rolex repairs / overhauls.

i'd sell the 5513 and buy the 5512. they're similar, obviously, but the 5512 is much rarer, yes?

mostly true, but not in the case of Luminova,
they will actually replace necessary parts only with luminova because the original parts that came with tritium and rhodium (older) are no longer made due to health risks.

the luminova is just the substance that has taken the place of the older material.

but replacing the dial with a service dial....


the movement, watch case and bezel looks to be in excellent condition

Honestly if u have a 5513 I'd steer away from 5512 or just swap the. As previously said... Lots of other more variant rolexs. 1665 maybe 1675 etc.

I had a 5513 and got a 1680 but would consider a 5508 or 1660 but not a 5512... Just my advice.... Happy hunting Nd do let us know what you end u buying

Thank you subtona for the correction. Although I'm a long time Rolex owner I have just recently joined this forum and started my knowledge quest to learn about them in more detail. I wish I knew as much about Rolex's as I do my car and motorcycle hobbies.

I see the photos and I believe that it is very well prepared and presented. To my opinion, as I see it, unless the photos fool me, the dial is redone.

Also a lot of good work has been put to the case.

A nice example if someone is after such a watch. And all depends on the price. Does it have a bracelet ?

If service dial doesn't bother you, why not look for one with a service dial? It will be a lot cheaper.

Where/how do you see damage to the hands? I see some wear but not damage. what am I missing, Clay?
