Best Way to Set Down Your Rolex

When taking off your Rolex is it best to set it down face up, on it's side (crown or non-crown side) or face down. I will most likely set it on a towel to avoid scratches but I am curious if is good for the watch / movement to set it down a certain way?

All the above if you want to find its most accurate resting position. You have to experiment.

I just avoid setting it near the edge of the table above a tile floor.

Gently on a towel. Well away from any electronic devices to avoid magnetism.

In a perfect world.. In a lead box.. On a towel..

I just lay it on my wooden night stand. Steel is a little stronger so no worry about scratches ...... except to the night stand.

So there is really no special way to set it down? If I remember correctly, someone told me crystal down?

I always have something under my watches, like a cotton cloth.

The position you set it in at night depends on what you are trying to accomplish. For example if your watch is running a second or two fast a day, put it crystal down and that should compensate and slow it down a tad. Gravity effect the balance wheel mechanism differently in various positions.

I just put it down, don't care if it is on a bedside table, my desk, the countertop, and then I forget about it. It is a material thing and top of that it is a tool watch, it can take it. Any sign of use is called patina.

It's going to get all its 'wear' marks while you're wearing it, not on a table at night.

With new ones (not yet sold), or watches being handled and serviced by RSC, I've seen the Rolex staff placing them crown down, to avoid hairline marks on the mirror finish of the side of the case. But once you've started wearing it, I'd say just put it down any old way.
The only thing I do is keep it out of the reach of my daughter's grubby mitts.

Anyway that suites.
Mines crown up in an Oakley watch vault.
These little things are great, hard to get hold of though.

After my evening schnapps and cigars reading Charles Dickens in front of a roaring fire, I place mine face up on a luxurious bed of roses and sing it a lullaby

Same way I put my cell phone down, car keys, reading glasses, etc. Avoid the slam down method or horseshoe toss and all fine.

Have to agree Ken resting cloths on one of the toughest watches made today whatever next.I can understand a cloth to protect say a high polished table from the much tougher SS.Perhaps we can invent a Rolex sleeping cloth or cradle type bed that plays lullaby's and gently rocks your Rolex to keep its little heart beating overnight.

lol...
Peter, you'd get rich quick selling them to TRF members!
Make them real scarce though like the Oakley small watch vaults and then you could sell them for a premium.
All kidding aside I usually wear mine 24/7 but when I do take it off I'll usually put it on something soft as opposed to something hard.
Nothing special but whatever is at hand.

That sounds a lot like that watch winder device you're so fond of Peter!

I think if you are gentle enough there won't be any scratches on your watch, therefore the towel may not be necessary. As for the position, some of them will make the movement run a tad faster or slower but nothing will be bad for it.

I am probably more careful with my car keys than my watches...
