Advice on old Submariner
Just wanted to know peoples opinion on what I should do with my watch. The watch is a 1984 Submarinier, I love the watch but it does have some appearance issues. It took on some water about five years ago and the lume made a mess, the cyclops fell off about two years ago, and it could use a good polishing.
My question is do you think it is worth sending in and getting fixed up or should I just put it in the box and buy another watch just like it. The watch keeps great time and I love the fact that I can wear it and not have to be worried about putting a scratch on it, makes a great every day work watch and not to flashy. Thanks |

I think if you've got the money and are ready to upgrade, go for it. If you want to keep this watch going, then I'd send it in and spend the money to fix it up. Ultimately you should follow your gut.

I would send it in and at the very least get a professional opinion as to what's needed and an estimate of cost...
At that point you'll be better able to make a decision... |

I would send it in to Rik & see what he says.

Based on current parts + labor I wouldn't be
Surprised if you were looking at $1500-2000 At rsc. I'd be interested to hear a price from Riki. |

The band is certainly wrong as it appears to have SEL's ? With the loss or removal of the cyclops we were going for the Seadweller look ? I'm not comfortable it's all there

Assuming there isn't damage you don't know about, you could probably have that one restored and looking like new for much less than the cost of a new Sub or a mint Sub from '84. Unless you're lusting after a new watch, it seems to make sense to restore it.
Or restore it and buy a new one, too. ;) |

I'd be more worried about the movement than the dial if it took on water. You could always just have the movement serviced, but if it wasn't looked at for water damage inside, I'd get that sorted out first. Good luck!

Get a quote. If you decide to fix it OK. If not, and you go for a new one, you can send it to me to keep it for you
