If a SS Rolex cost the same as an Omega or Tag
...would we still be into them?

All "Da more betta"!
Actually, the Omegas have pretty good quality at relatively bargain prices. |

Indeed! Omega watches are excellent value for the money, and Rolex cannot beat the lume quality of Omega.

To be off topic a bit, but you are right about the lume. Even with maxi dial, my GMT IIc has less lume than my Omega SMP. The hour markers on the GMT show OK lume, but the lume on the hands is lacking at best.

Omega might have better lume....
but inside is where it really counts...such as the independent balance that Rolex has had for years, and Omega just started using with their co-axial..

A very good question. I have one as well. Would you buy a watch at the same price of the average Rolex, with far better build quality, but from a completely unknown maker? Let's say real hand-made and with specs far exceeding those of COSC?

It is the strictly the price that makes ROLEX, ROLEX and makes me buy a ROLEX..believe me, 99.9% of us bought it for the name and haven't even peeked inside the watch's rear end ... and I am one of them ..I will still buy SS Rolex because of its quality but paying such big bucks makes me feel a member of a special club....

Get a Rolex for a cheaper price....I'm not stupid so I would have a few. Just because they cost more doesn't make them more attractive. Omega makes a great watch, the next watch on my list is a Omega actually, and it is definitely won't be inferior because it cost less, it may very well see more wrist time than my sub.....

Rolex is 100% Rolex and Omega is not! Rolex makes all their movements and Omega buys movements from ETA.... That is one of the main reason I like Rolex.

I must be a .1% guy. I've peeked inside my Rolex's rear end a couple of times.

Even though it wont happen in our lifetime, if all 3 brands were around the same prices, I would still gladly purchase the Rolex. If the prices were the same, I can almost buy two Rollies for the price of one today. Just that thought is more than enough to convince me.
Then, if I had a little dough left over, I'd also gladly purchase an Omega to add more variety to my collection. Then another Longines because I have always loved Longines watches.

Nah, I bought the Rolex because I equated the higher price to what I was getting in return and I found them to be equal.
Personally, I don't try to justify my purchase by talking about the superior movement and 916L grade stainless steel........ I bought my Rolex because I really enjoy looking at it in its box and because I feel that Rolex has proven it's Brand quality enough to justify paying 40 - 60% more. I probably won't keep my Rolex beyond the (3) year mark (before flipping), so I am not worried about it running for the next (50) years, corrosion, losing [-] 1 second a day, etc..... Nah, if OMEGA and TAG cost the same as Rolex, I would buy the Rolex, but then again, I would probably move on to buying from more fertile ground, if I see them costing the same. I think that OMEGA is going to move up in price...........but they still need to improve their BRAND image and ROLEX is the master at placing their BRAND in the right way, like placing a carrot in front of the rabbit hole. I think that OMEGA and ROLEX are similar in quality, but I don't think that OMEGA has developed the right strategy to make the general population lust after it. YOU HAVE TO MAKE PEOPLE LUST AFTER THE BRAND and as much as I like OMEGA, I just don't lust when I see OMEGA or TAG. |

I guess I don't understand the question. I would be more than happy to pay less for a Rolex as long as it was a Rolex. The fact that it cost more than other brands was not a motivator for me.

BTW, Omega's are outstanding, and I don't see any discernible difference in quality between my Seamaster Pro and my GMT IIc. The SMP is going strong after 5 years and a lot of use. Just my $0.02. |

In general an Omega will depreciate and a Rolex will appreciate.

Not really. Most Rolexes don't appreciate in value. They depreciate, but hold their value longer than an Omega.
The fact that most AD's will give you big discounts on a new Omega, kills the resale value. |
