Replacement bands
I am new to the world of Rolex. I received a gift of a Rolex Oysterdate Precision from 1958, model 6494. It is very clean but has an aftermarket leather band which is very tight on my wrist. Also, the band does not have the Rolex buckle. I am thinking about replacing the band and would like advice on whether or not I should spend the money on a genuine Rolex stainless steel bracelet? A Rolex leather band with the Rolex buckle? Buy a simple aftermarket ss bracelet or a leather band that fits? I don't know how the different bands will effect the value of this timepiece. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The oyster date would look good on a quality brown or black leather strap not necessarily rolex. the bracelet would also look good but a leather strap is a cost efficient strap yet could make your watch a whole lot better.

A new s/s bracelet would probably set you back not too far off what the watch is actually worth, so probably not worth it.
Good quality leather with Rolex buckle loosk great imo. I've also been looking at buckles lately and you seem to be able to pick them up for just £25-50 |

Ron.......To each their own but if I bought a vintage 1958 Oysterdate and if it were in really good condition, I would want an original type SS bracelet to go with it. I bought my 1969 Air-King (head-only) and it was absolutely in like new condition but I didn't want to wear it on a leather band so I searched until I found a brand new never worn Rolex OEM bracelet still sealed in OEM packaging but vintage to the watch - from a private seller. It wasn't cheap but now the watch looks absoulety new and with a fresh service it runs better (more accurate) than any of my other Rolex's. I wouldn't spend the money for a new OEM bracelet for a worn and weathered watch but for the right vintage watch....you betcha! Also since you received the watch as a gift, why not spend some money for the bracelet you really want.
