Great Service deal.

Quick question...

I was in an AD today looking at Rolexes (no Milgause or GMTII)

The salesman offered to polish my bracelet back to oiginal condition. I have A LOT of scratches on the bottom of the clasp. I always thought I would have to wait until I sent my SS/Plat YM to Rolex Service to have the scratches fixed. He said that this service normally costs $300 USD but he offered to do my watch for $50.

My question is should I do it? I have the polished center links and I am wondering if the center links can only be polished at RSC properly? He assuered me that the tech would not be opening the case for any reason. Does anyone think this will turn out to be a hack job? It is just the bracelet that needs attention. He also said that everything would be documented and my watch would be authenticated as genuine to protect them as well as me, is that normal?

Thanks for the input, the offer is really tempting.

GOISU,
If they are a Rolex AD, and a Rolex trained jeweler is doing the work you should be fine. As for the $50, that is just to buff the scratches right? I usually have my AD that I purchased the watch from do it for free. It always comes back like new. Depending on how old your watch is you maybe up for your 5 year "oil change" and service. Typically runs $500+/- to sent it off to RSC. But some local ADs can do it for less. But be sure to find a good jeweler. So if you do need a service you can for go the $50 and send it in. It will come back like new!

Only one thing seems a bit odd. How will the AD authenticate your watch if the Tech is not going to open the back? (Not that I would let them!)

GOISU, What would they be authenticating? A band polishing?

I know, I was perplexed by the authenticating comment as well. That is when I asked about the opening of the case. There is no way I was gonna let them open the case. I am guessing they copy down the serial # to prove they didn't pull a swith-a-roo on me. Thanks for the input, I think I am going to have it done tomorrow. $50 for service on a watch I bought somewhere else sounds good to me. As for RSC I have only had the watch for 13 months.

The serial number is inbetween the lugs on the case. So the Ad wouldn't need to remove the back, just the S/S band. Good Luck!

If your AD watch maker has the right machine for buffing the clasp, I'd go for the deal. But there have also been horror stories about "quick buffs", resulting in horrible looking bracelets.

If you want to be on the safe side, let RSC do it when time is due for service. Having your watch polished inbetween RSC services is not always recommended since material loss is inevitable and scratches come again soon after the polish job.

He is a making you THINK it's a deal by discounting it to $50 from $300. $50 is about right for a job like that. If the watchmaker is Rolex trained, then you should be fine.

My watchmaker charges $75 to buff a SS bracelet, this is normal (not discounted) price... So I think that salesperson is just trying to make it look more attractive by saying it's normally $300??

I would wait for RSC to do it. My AD will do it for free since I bought from them before. They will even "clean up" the Submariner that I bought somewhere else.

Yeah, wait for RSC. Let that scratches for a while, until someday you bring your watch to RSC.
