Hi folks,

I got a z serial Daytona, my dealer called me today and said that just entered a second hand random serial Daytona from 2012.

He suggested to flip and I should add 1.5k$

My Daytona is great but without papers and I guess I need in the near future to service it....

What do you think?

If you can sell your Z series Daytona & get a Random serial #, some 7 years newer, with box & papers, for $1,500 more dollars... Whats to think about... do it...

I'd do it! go for it. Z serial would date back to around 2007 and we're now talking about 2012. Not bad!

Seems pointless to me. Instead just get your Z serial serviced and it will come back looking brand new for half the price of what you would have to spend to get the second hand random serial numberered watch.

It's not such a clear cut bad deal to me.

A service on your 2007 Daytona would run to $700.

That's half the money right there.

You'd get a BNIB RSC supplied Daytona with boxes and papers in your name.

The random serial is very new and if it's in pristine condition, it might be a good deal. Hard to tell without the details/pics. If you factor in a service on your watch (which is due now but not due on the newer one) it takes your price to change down by about half or so. Does Z serial have the new clasp or the old one? If not, that might also be a factor in your decision (a small one though).

I'd do it for the reasons already mentioned.
Even though its the same watch, the random will command a premium over the z when its time to resell.
I cant speak for others here, but unless its a vintage I will never pay the same price for a Z if a random can be had at a similar price.

I think I would do it. Since he approached you with the deal you might want to see if there is more negotiating room.

That's the thing, its not brand new. It is second hand as well or at least that is what the OP stated. My question is why would the AD want to make this deal?

Z serials some had engraved rehauts some didnt. The Z will also most likely have the older style clasp. Even if it has the newer clasp the locking guard would be different compared to a random serial.

There are some changes but its really up tp the OP if its worth it for him or not

Although its older, but any new watches will get older too.

Without papers? Nobody ever needs that for servicing. RSC only requires you to bring your genuine Rolex without box and papers.
