Black or White Dial

Hi folks. I'm starting to move forward on my 2nd DateJust purchase. I'm looking at a steel DateJust, but I'm tossed between a black dial or white dial. I was originally looking at a black dial with Roman numerals, but since I wear my Rolex with everything... Suit Monday-Friday and jeans or shorts on the weekends, I'm up in the air. Thoughts?

The white gives you more versatility I think... I have a black face black strap dress montblanc in steel and I sometimes wish the face was white because I feel like it would match better with more things

Easy. If your current DJ is White, then get the next one in Black.

If you want variety, go for the one most different to the one you already have.

I've never liked white dials at all. All my watches except for my DJ are black dials & IMO look great.

As some others have said, knowing the particulars of your current DJ will enable more informed opinions on this new one.
And who doesn't love a Datejust ?

I would go for white. Legibility is much better, especially with the black hands of the Buckley dial. Here is an OQ DJ.

That is a very distinctive dial, hands and numerals very sharp. Who says 36mm isn't large enough?
Btw, what does OQ mean?

Both are great. I tend to look at the black dials as more dressy or formal and the white dials as more casual and easier to read. Can't go wrong with either choice. Congrats in advance!

In this case, the white is stealth at a distance.

I'd go with something that is strikingly different than your first DJ so you have some variety in your collection.

A point I always make to my customers is that the black dial has a contrast to the white date-wheel, whereas the white dial blends relatively smooth with the white date-wheel..
(contrast is great for legibility, but white on white may work better for avoiding breaks in design..)
I'm sure youve tried em both on to see if any sing to you - risky, as you may end up with a blue dial :p

My personal opinion is the white. Its a crisp, clean, deep white you dont come by often.

Then again, if you already have one, perhaps you should get the next one in a different dial for the same reason some others have already pointed out.

My vote is for the white dial. Black is so boring.

If you are torn between those two colours, have you thought about a silver dial? (if you haven't already got one).

If strictly between those colours only, I'd say white.

Get the opposite color of the one you own. Otherwise, they will look like the same watch to you. That happened to me, even though one was a chronograph and one wasn't.

I've always thought for dressy white is more appropriate. If you look at the Lange & Sohne watches (which I consider dressy) they are mostly white dial.

Having said that, the hottest DJ I've seen recently is, smooth bezel, and black stick dial.

Since you're in suits most of the time I would say black, but I would most certainly chose based on the DJ you have now.
