Unless you are an active seller in the area and afraid that this transaction would hurt your business in any way, I would stand firm and not buy it back. His problem, not yours.

In many, many transactions, I've always given buyers 24hrs if we deal by post, face to face it's yours when we part company.

Glad to hear it worked out. And since you offered a solution, you can feel good that you tried to remedy the issue for the buyer and he declined. You get to keep the cash and get the "karma" bump!
