Datejust: Fluted vs smooth bezel. Opinions?
I am in the market for a datejust and have it narrowed down to the following two. Just curious on yalls thoughts on the fluted vs smooth bezel. Any input/opinions are appreciated
  This will be my first rolex, and am having a hard time deciding between the two. I was also wondering if I would be better off going with a used one for my first rolex? Again, any input is greatly appreciated!!! |

Smooth. A classic. And definitely go pre-owned. Just like buying a used Lexus...you know it is a great machine and will last many years if taken care of.

The fluted bezel on the datejust is one of the most iconic Rolex features and I love the way it catches light. Timeless styling and impeccable craftsmanship.

My personal preference is the smooth bezel...clean, elegant and looks great. Go pre owned if you can find one in the appropriate condition...just be careful of who you buy from as authenticity can be an issue.

For that watch model I would go with fluted.

I used to think fluted, exclusively. However, when the 116300's came out, I was smitten by the silver face version...still am.
You really can't go wrong with either. I tend to think the darker dials and those with Roman/Arabic numerals look better with fluted, but I don't base this on any logic, just pure personal preference. |

Fluted is the classic look.
As a luxury item buy new. If it is a first Rolex and therefore a potential keeper buy new. If you think you might flip it consider used. If you are not bothered about spending thousands on a luxury item with someone else's name on the papers, with potential unknown damage or misuse, or with perhaps missing accessories buy used. |

Fluted with jubilee, smooth ok with oyster. I personally like fluted the best for DJ.

I bought smooth but couldn't live with it so I flipped it to fluted and don't regret it's the iconic look!

Fluted gets my vote. I'd go with an Exp I if I wanted a smooth bezel.
