Submariner Owners: Why choose Sub over Sub-Date?

I don't always want to know what day it is, they are often very much alike and sometimes dreaded. Incidentally, it is possible to install the cyclops at 12, so that the symmetry is much better...

When I bought my Submariner (no date), I didn't choose it because it was a no date model, but because a friend was selling it and willing to give me a good deal. I was indifferent as to whether I'd prefer one with or without the date.

However, over time, I've really come to enjoy the relative rarity, symmetry, and classic look of this watch. I feel like over time, as I get older and hopefully have more money to devote to watches, I will hopefully have the opportunity to buy watches with more and more complications, but I will always like to have one around that is "simple" and for me that watch is the Submariner. I've considered selling it before for other watches, but every time I think about it I have always decided against it in the end.

I bought a black ss subdate from Mayors 2 years ago and haven't worn it more than 10 times since I'm used to my datejust.

Could you guys guide me on the best way to sell it to the rightful owner?

My 14060 was my first Rolex. I had the choice between a 14060 and a 16610, but bought the 14060 instead. A few years later, I needed the date and ended up with a 16610 also.

I love the symmetry of the Submariner dial, and I was never a big fan of the cyclops. I also prefer no date watches in general, as I'm sufficiently OCD that I couldn't wear a watch with a date that was incorrectly set, but with a large rotation of watches, it's just one additional complication that I have to reset if the watch runs down.

The absence of the cyclops also makes it less recognizable as a Rolex to the general populace, and the absence of the date makes it truer to the original design. I like the fact that it's comparatively rarer than the Submariner Date, and that status conscious buyers tend to prefer the Submariner Date over the Submariner, because they take the viewpoint that a Rolex isn't a Rolex with the cyclops (expressed to me by more than one AD).

The Date Ceramic is 900 more then the standard Sub in Canada but I prefer the look of the date and cyclops so I went with it but I have to say, the standard Sub looks great on its own

In the process of purchasing a Sub No Date 14060M 4 liner. I prefer the 4 liner because it appears more balanced than the 2 liner to me. But I definetly prefer the No Date to the Date, I like the clean look of the 14060M. Having the date on a watch was never a big deal for me.

The 14060M was my first Rolex. Since then,I've added a two tone SubC with serti dial, SS datejust, everose Day Date and Bruiser GMT. I still find myself going back to the 14060M. Why? If you have to ask, you don't get it.

It's just a little surprising how so many have to bash the other watch in order to justify their choice......because the "original/real" Sub has no date, my beehind.
So with a date it's a fake.

No need for such reactions

The submariner date is the evolution of the submariner. No one can dispute that the first sub has no date

but its a great evolution for rolex to add the date complication in the submariner.

Boy the money is just shrinking faster than seconds can tick by. In 1985 I bought a new SS sub date, all in, at my AD for $900.00. What's the use of scrimping for a golden retirement when chances are, it will take a wheel barrel full to equal what once fit in a change purse?

I prefer a no date version in looks but needed a date. However having the Daytona, it forces me to concentrate on the date in the morning. I have a habit even when I know the date to look at my watch.

One of my main reasons for buying my first Rolex was to have the date. I thought I would get a Day Date until I saw those prices. Would be nice to know both, as I'm not getting any younger...

for the 14060: you can always use the pearl marker to point to the exact date using the minute markers either side of 12.

i make it a point to change the date(move the pearl) every day at 12am. If you sleep early, do it first thing you wake up. 2 clicks = one day= one minute.

I agree.

I just say get what you like, regardless.

Someone else here made a point saying a Sub with a date wasn't the original Sub. Well, neither was ceramics! But then of course that opens a whole new regular dispute here; ceramic vs aluminium, which still rages on.

I bought the Sub C Date because I, personally, loved it. Many reasons why, but all of which were my own.

I wouldn't knock or wonder why anyone would buy a model without a date as I would know for whatever reason that's their preference!

Got two no date Subs, new school and old school...just like 'em better, and I always know what day it is anyways.
