Bad Weather in Dallas

Doesn't Dallas essentially shut down with weather like that? I can't imagine being on the roads with people who have no clue how to drive in those conditions.

Its 35 degrees in Cypress TX...which for me is waaaayyyyy to cold. It may snow/sleet this far down .....we have a low of 29 for tonight.

Wow…thats wild.

Do they even sell ice/snow scrapers there? Im not being sarcastic, just Texas isn't known to have this kind of weather. NC got a dumping a few yrs back and essentially shut down the state. The hospital went into emergency mode and requested volunteers with SUV's to assist picking up staff that were unable to get to the hospital. Was pandemonium. I give the hospital credit for doing that though. It sure helped.

Whats an ice scraper? you get this kind of cold every 10 years or so....what they say on the news.
Back home in Tempe it could be 45 degrees....drive 120 miles to Flagstaff and it could be 5 degrees and a blizzard....
Many years ago we went skiing at snowbowl in Flagstaff maybe 25 degrees drove back home and went swimming in our pool and it was over 80 degrees in Tempe.

JK... I miss Texas so much. I lived in Houston for 25+ years before I had to change employers. It's amazing how hot Dallas is in the summer, yet you guys get the ice storms in the winter.

For those not familiar, Central/East Texas typically gets really bad ice storms once or twice a year, rather than what most people refer to as snow. Factor really bad ice on the roads with people that don't know how to drive on it... You get the picture.

Hope your power stays on.

FWIW... Its another sunny, 80* day here in the middle of the Pacific. Regardless, I sure miss Texas from time to time. Stay safe.

I sincerely feel sorry when the south gets hit with this kind of weather. We know how to drive in it and have equipment to clear the roads up here in MN. That's not the case in TX, etc.

The biggest fallacy is that 4wd helps you on the road. It helps you start off in deep snow. It does NOTHING for braking…I constantly see 4wd vehicles in the ditch. It's called "inertia".

We have surprisingly little 4wd vehicles. Truth is we don't need them. Central Los Angeles seem to need them though. Well to be honest we have our fair share of them too, but we do get proper winters.

No but seriously, the only thing that really helps on snow and ice, is slower speeds and proper winter tires, like this;




But then again, probably not practical to keep a set on rims just for that 1 week of freak weather every few years...
