NFL Player Gets Mom's OK to Buy a Rolex
http://ftw.usatoday.com/2013/12/vict...mission-rolex/
As a Skins fan, I hope it messes up his catching ability, but otherwise, that is a fine-looking watch! |

I think it was a smart move on his part. You often see athletes blow huge pay checks and end up filing for bankruptcy. Many of these kids come from poor socioeconomic status, and then are given an insane amount of money as their first salary, and 6-7 figure bonuses.
It's great to see a young man who did it right. |

Not a bad move in his position and circles he runs with in his profession. At least its a tangible asset and not blowing money on a trip to Vegas.

On one side I sort of get it where he's asking his mums thoughts on his purchase, although I bet that wasn't the conversation and more of 'I'm buying it' rather than asking and then getting that inevitable reaction most mums would give.
On the other side I just think, clown. He's a high-paid sports star yet he talks about this conversation he claims to have had with his mum. Also he just demonstrates that's he's a follower and is buying something partly it would seem because some other famous people have had one. Then again someone else has rightly pointed out about sports stars not being used to having access to that sort of money. It could be far worse. |

Played victor 4 years in a row in high school football and track. He also attended our summer football camp, he's a real good guy.

I think he should've gone for the Sky Dweller since he soars to catch those high passes and is often away from home in a different time zone.
On his financial side - Cruz signed a five year, $45+ million contract over the Summer... Hopefully he will stay healthy, play well and have a great future - maybe a potential Rolex Ambassador in the making...

Seems to be some jealousy on this thread. I'm sure many members on here got Subs because James Bond wore it. Many many people try to imitate people they admire.
This young man seems to have a head on his shoulders. Don't think too many rich and young man would even consider talking to their mom on something like that. |

Not a fan of Victor at all, especially with all of his controversial off field tweets, comments, etc...

Want to bet on that? If in five years, he's still above what the government considers "broke," you donate your watch collection to my charity of choice? http://www.census.gov/hhes/www/pover...w/measure.html |

Here is the thing. That gentleman is Hispanic raised by a Hispanic mother. It would be normal for a very young man like that to involve his parents in a decision like that. It's kind of nice I think. I read where his mother watches his baby in the house he grew up in while he and his lady are working/out of town.

Cruz has not harmed a soul and is one of the good guys. In fact this story is a down to earth story and he is getting mauled on the forum. Rough crowd here, very like able, but rough!

I don't know anything about this gent. Based on just the article, however, it seems that someone is making an unfair assumption. I could take a guess as to why they make this assumption, but it's not a topic to be discussed on TRF.

He doesn't seem like the typical athlete. He appears to be an overall nice person. Regardless if he asked his mom or not, it's nice to reward yourself for milestone or a great success.

I've never heard of him before.
Good on him if he wants to celebrate a new contract with a Rolex. Sounds like he can afford it. |
