Tried on a GMT IIC at an AD today...

First off, I am more a vintage Rolex guy, but I am always drawn to the GMT IIC when I see one in the wild, or as in this case, an AD. Trying on the new GMT's reminds why I like the Rolex brand.

The new GMT's has features that I really admire, features that make the new watches in many respects better and/or different than the vintage Rolex watches. I am no expert, but I suspect this is why the Rolex brand continues to do well. This AD didn't have their normal stockpile of Rolex watches to view. The manager told me that they had a very good Christmas in terms of Rolex, and they were waiting for replacements, especially the GMT BLNR, which they claimed is already on hold for a customer.

Lastly, for $8,400 dollars, a new GMT seems like a bargain considering what I would pay for a vintage RedSub, DRSD, Explorer, etc. There I said it, the new GMT delivers excellent value, and I may have to open up my wallet one day to get one....!

thanks

I completely agree. Love the older iterations of the model too but the current one is a stunner.

Did you happen to see it in TT? Drop dead, flat out gorgeous. And the full YG, fuhget about it.

I wish Tudor would come out with one. I know they have in the past but I've yet to see a Tudor GMT in the US.

Agreed, the two tone and Solid Gold new GMT's are incredible, but at nearly twice the price of the SS models I start to wonder about value. At 48,400 new,or under 6k used, the new GMT is my favorite new semi affordable model hands down...

Still prefer a faded Pepsi with brushed steel to a shiny ceramic and PCLs, but that, of course, is just me.

Oh yeah, I am pepsi fan as well. The way I would handle the PCL's, brush them! I've seen a few members brush their PCL's, I think it looks great...

Yeah, the YG is a little above my comfort level. Perhaps if I already had all the watches I want in my collection I'd go for it but I'm not there yet. So it's tough to spring on that one when there are another half dozen watches I'd like to have. I have my eye on an LVC next then have a feeling I'm going to go after some of the pre-ceramic GMTs. Plus, I have the TT and absolutely love it.

If you like the TT though you should perhaps check out the classifieds here. They are available at a very good discount, even BNIB. Not that much more than the SS model.

You should go for it, in my experience the SS GMTII-C is a watch you just don't get tired of. It's really balanced, not too shiny but not too dull, beautiful maxi dial, great bracelet (although PCL is a scratch magnet), lovely green 24h hand and the operation of the GMT function/date in one hour increments is plainly brilliant. Really versatile and I believe that from all my watches the GMTII-C is the one that gets more wrist time.

Cheers!

I agree. I think the watch looks awesome in the display case. I just didn't like it on my wrist. I would take a Coke over it.

Any more talk about GMT and I will have to get out of bed to switch what's on my wrist for the day ;-).

Agree that GMTc is the most comfortable modern Rolex on the market. And if you don't like PCL have them brushed. It's a 20 minutes deal at most ADs. I love the GMTc with brushed bracelet.

I also am not a ceramic bezel fan but the new GMT looks great and has a sophistication that almost justifies the use of a ceramic bezel.

Very funny. This is exactly the kind of power and presence the new GMT has.
I need to enjoy my new rootbeer a bit longer before I acquire another rolex.

My friend will sell me his 2007 GMT IIc with box and papers for 6k... Thinking about it a lot lately..

That sounds like a good deal Al
That must be the best price I've seen so far for a GMT IIc
I must agree that my GMT IIc is in the top 2 of my daily watches, along with my 14060.

Good luck with deciding!

Are you sure? For Basel TF was hoping for three Cyclops on the Daytona subdials!

TBH I would quite like to see what a Tri-clops looks like.

The more I think about it though, the Tryclops Daytona would be a huge release so it probably won't happen until the 2015 Basel, the 100th anniversary of Rolex.

Best looking Rolex:

The GMT IIc.

I could get about any Rolex, other than the ones that are up in the $100,000 where you start getting diminishing returns.

I always come back to the GMT.

Yeah, $8,400 is a good price. I love my BLNR, lover the color combo, love the PCL, love the easy link. there is a reason why the watch is hard to find....DEMAND!!! I may also add an older GMT with switchable ammonium inserts. Perhaps also a rustic worn leather band just to make sure they look very different. GMT is certainly my favorite.

However, one day, a Platinum ice blue President will be in order. I love it, however, I don't know if I go to enough nice places and dress up often enough to get a lot of use out of it. It is simply the one I can't stop looking at...mesmerizes me. Has a hypnotic on me.

In the end, who case, Ill get i one day even if all I do it sit around in my boxers and start at it. Stupid, right?

Love my GMTIIc. The easy link is great, but I do prefer the glidelock clasp of the sub, however.

I don't a GMT but I certainly would and for me it would be the Blue/Black. It looks so great in person. The ceramic bezel hits it out of the park if you ask me.
