2nd Post - slightly obsessed and sleep deprived....

I've never been addicted to anything - sex, drugs, alcohol (although my local wine store may say otherwise) etc, but this whole Rolex thing is getting a grip on me and now I want to sell my house just so I can own/sleep with/devote my time being mesmerized by my own collection of beautiful timepieces! I'm drooling over images of Rolex's like a college boy on the Playboy channel.
Is there a Rolex rehabilitation centre I can check into???
My DJ (lady's) with lovely diamond dial is too damn small and I need to upgrade - I still haven't purchased a gent's steel datejust for a surprise birthday present for my daughter in less than 2 weeks.
I'm thinking of putting a Mickey Mouse watch from the Disney store into my Rolex box and putting the cash inside for her to pick her own!! - In all seriousness can anybody tell me if they'd rather have the cash to pick their own if they could????

Afraid today far more important things on this earth than Rolex watches I can assure you they are just watches to tell the time nothing more.Remember the most precious thing we have is life, yet it has absolutely no trade-in value even for a Rolex.The most important thing for myself at the moment is simply this that everyday I beat my own previous record for number of consecutive days I've stayed alive.

Well, I wouldn't be selling the house and unless you're 100% sure the model, or if she even wants a watch, then cash awaaaaaaay!

probably , depending on your daughters age , a michale chors , or what ever way its spelt ,, would win hands down at the moment , they seem to be the in thing ,, a rolex as a surprise present is either totally the best thing in the world , or just a watch in the drawer ,, but if someone hasnt expressed an interest in the past , or you dont get the right model , its one for the draw.

I'd say perhaps take her out and shop with her, let her choose the model she wants instead of giving her money but, as Tom said, I would only do that if she seems to want a watch.

As for selling the house, how about you wait a bit and sleep on it first...

Haha, laughed at your post. First take a deep breath. Yes I think it is a good idea to go with your daughter to a Jewellers and pick out a watch.

There is a Rolex rehabilitation centre right here, it is called the Open Discussion board. It's for members that have come through the other side and start discussing normal-non Rolex related stuff and are starting to rebuild their lives. Good luck.

To be clear - I think she'd give up her first born child for a Rolex - she'd defo wants one and this is the big 30 birthday - so Micheal Kors is not gonna cut the mustard (besides which she already has one)

She borrows my DJ, has no idea she's getting one - but I know what she likes by her advice on what style to get when I went to a AD in Manchester to look at part ex- ing mine.

So - the question remains - ultimately, would you rather pick your own Rolex? Is Mickey going in the box?

I love your passion for the brand. There are some profound things here.
1. She's turning 30
2. She loves the brand too
3. MOST IMPORTANT-- sounds like you have a fantastic relationship with your daughter.

As a parent of two very young daughters all I want is for them to be happy, healthy, and to have a great relationship with me so BIG CONGRATS to you and your daughter. As for her birthday gift. I would do one of two things. I love your idea of the Mickey Mouse watch and maybe a little note saying she gets to pick her "real" watch out for herself. Or, pick one out for her and let her know she should go and make sure it's the right model for her. I would consider either a DJ, Explorer I, or perhaps a sport model. Can't really go wrong either way. Good luck regardless of which way you go. Oh and just my opinion but there is nothing wrong with your excitement for the brand. I've owned my Sub C for a little over a year and every day it brings me the same level of happiness it did on the first day. Nothing wrong with how you feel at all.

DEFINITELY let her pick her own. For the kind of $$ a Rolex costs, you want her to be totally happy with the watch, and not looking at others and liking another better. Would you want someone picking your watch for you??

Seriously, as for the present I suggest she picks her fav three DJs and you make the final choice so it is a surprise and also a true gift from you as your thought has gone into it and that matters in a gift from your dad esp when, as many of us here have shared before, we have lost ours.

I think it depends on the person youre buying for. Some people know what they want, and don't want substitutes... others may not be as interested in the subject and would actually prefer someone else to make the educated decision for them.

Me personally, I'd definitely rather the cash to pick my own out but to be honest, if my parents ever thought about picking one out and buying it for me, I wouldn't complain either haha.

interesting... I took my daughter with me to look at watches , she is 16 and really didnt not care about anything rolex,cartier... then she was completley drooling and looked
stunt by a rose gold color michael kors,... we left, and then in christmas she found it under the christmas tree,,, you should seen her face ! she was so happy ,.

Congrats on raising her right! My son has absolutely no interest in any watch, Rolex or otherwise. I honestly do not remember dropping him on his head; perhaps the babysitter..?

Peter. I agree fully. Rolex like anything else is a phase in life,an obsession, that will fade down or even go away sooner or later.
Family, health, peoples love, peace of mind are far important things that bring true long lasting happiness.

I'm board certified in the US in palliative care and hospice/pain managment.
You would know what I mean if you do rounds with me in the inpatient unit.

I have set priorities in life long ago. Rolex is merely a pleasant escape from daily hassle for me at least. It's pure class and heritage and a lucrative business for the most part.

Material things bring short lived happiness.

I love TRF and it's wonderful members and sellers. Hope this post writer find some of these words are easing to her mind.
