I'll add, The Poor Poor service provided at RSCNY (i can only conclude it is representative of Rolex guidance) 1 example, New crown & stem charged but not changed ...that is Paying for service that was not actually provided! After which i realized there is no email address for Rolex nor is there any phone # for customer service...hmmm

They were riding on the Chinese market bubble to increase their prices over 30% over three years or so. That was greed and business. But isn't that what any business is about :"profit"!! I think the exp2 would have been a home run with keeping the 40 mm and adding the orange hand, but the demand for larger watches made it the least classic of the bunch hence the size change gamble. But it worked well for what I see!!!! |

I THINK Rolex biggest mistake was to loose, Year after Year, the edge they had on inovation and design of their watches. Just Compare what they produce today with what they did in the 70's or 80's. To name one watch, I have a Coke GMT that was produced 32 Yes ago. In short, they have nothing on the market today as powefull or strong compared to what they had 40, 30, 20 years ago. In this fórum we have passion, but the market does not behave that way. Competitors are catching up...

Thinking that this would enhance the Venice waterfront was a pretty big mistake.

Their biggest mistake - not living up to their past creations and making jewellery instead of passionately designed watches.

Hmmmm, anonymous internet armchair watch designers or Rolex? I think Rolex is doing just fine.
Everyone is going to disagree about something. I would rather concentrate on what I like. |

I second this, oil service cost more than the original watch did from the official Rolex agent.

All these 'mistakes' in design will be the very same things we desire in 20 years time. If I had a crystal ball it would be filled with images of collectors salivating over the ( now new) explorer with its shorter hands

We always look back fondly on the past.
As mentioned above...in 20 years we may be saying 'Look at the ceramic, such an innovation back then.' |

Their biggest mistake was to let Patrick Heiniger on board.

As for having created nothing exciting in the past five years, I very strongly disagree. You may not personally like some of the upgrades, but they are definitely exciting. I like the bold moves, like the larger ExpII or the maxi case on the subs. And whether you're a fan of them or not, the Sky Dweller and the Yachtmaster II are very exciting new watches. Mistakes? Hmm...now I'm thinking.. |

The fact that Rolex is still doing well meant they have't made any big mistakes, not like Nokia or Blackberry.

I think they are doing just fine which is why we are all happily here.
If in the next few years we don't get a ceramic panda Daytona or GMTc Pepsi then I think these will be big missed opportunities. |

Well Greg apart from the new movement in the SkyDweller and the new DSSD nothing much to come from Rolex over the past 13 years.

This, although a good watch guy can service your vintage watch with ease. But if you need a genuine replacement (dial, hands, crystal) .. good luck sourcing one.

Chaps
I am a relative newcomer to this forum as well as wearing a Rolex. I bought an Explorer1 in the first week of January this year. To be honest, I would think that the occasional thread of this nature must be a Godsend to Rolex because they get first hand experience of what their customers think of the brand in both a positive and negative manner. Most of the criticism in this thread has been constructive and that must be useful to the Rolex marketing dept. Regards Mick |
