My Bicycle Ride Today

Did almost 10 miles today and now have 48 miles on the bike. Breaking in the Brooks saddle is the defining measure of the lenght of my rides.

I try to discern the prevailing winds and go against the wind on my ride out hoping that I'll have the wind at my back on the way in. Unfortunately, along the lakefront, the wind always seems to be against me.

Today's ride was a little different. Looking at Google Maps, I found a route that would take me to a Plantation near my house. That was enough to get me to venture off of the lakefront.

Here is my ride mapped out:

Here is the Plantation:

When I got home I decided to Google it and found that it is a just a B&B that used wood from the original Plantation. Still, it was a nice diversion.

Here are some other pictures from today's ride;

That is a gorgeous bike. I can see why you would ride 10 miles on it for fun
You should try to find a nicer water bottle though. Maybe a glass one wrapped in leather, that would fit the bike really well. And yeah, good luck with the wind. Everytime I ride my bike there is a headwind. Doesn't matter which way I go. Then the wind shifts on my way back and is a headwind again

Sounds like your really putting some miles on that new bike quick. Great pictures too, been such a long time since I've been to New Orleans. I lived there for about 4 years and got out of there just before Katrina hit.

Thanks! Although it is fun, I'm trying to get into shape and this Spring has just been fantastic.

Do you have any recommendations? I'd love to get some British Racing Green bottles but don't know where to look.

Love that bike! I've been through about a dozen brooks saddles. Finally gave up on them though. I do pretty extreme riding and the brooks don't hold up to what I put them through, they are pretty though!

Pre "K", I lived blocks away from the Fairgrounds (Jazz Fest), and now I'm in Kenner and am semi-retired but need to lose about 20 lbs.. The rides are sort of boring but plan to keep them up before it gets too hot, or raining. I have a rowing machine to get me through the hot and rainy days.

The pictures are from my Cannon S110. I just toss it into one of my bags and its the perfect travel camera.

I don't know anywhere that actually sells them; I just thought it would look cool.
I did just recently purchase one of these http://www.takeyausa.com/p-42-classi...tle-16-oz.aspx They are glass with a rubber cover. Comes in lots of colours and are very nice.

I'm trying to like the saddle, and feel moments of nirvana on it but I'm still trying to figure it out.

I went ahead and bought bicycle shorts with padding. I haven't needed them, but that's only because I haven't been on any long rides yet.

If you look at miles 1 and 2 in the first picture you will see a loop. That is the difference between the the bike path and the levee, which I try to do on every ride.

Just keep riding the Brooks. After a while, the seat will form to you--then, it will be great! The B-17 is perfect for more upright riding positions. I have another that I use for more longer miles on my road bike. I believe it's the b-26 I'm not perfectly sure, though, but I love it also. If you put many miles on any bike, you need to consider the proper saddle; otherwise, it will take the lead out of your pencil Things go numb fast Brooks has been great, in this regard. Keep up the good miles
