The writing is stupendously self indulgent, and as mentioned here by others, just plain difficult to understand. That said, I think he means that he hates the DSSD, but likes the new Sea Dweller, because the Sea Dweller is more of a practical tool watch with elegant design, and the DSSD is a self indulgent, heavy, badly designed watch unworthy of Rolex.
To which I say: b.s. It's whatever people enjoy. I happen not to like the DSSD because of its bulk and weight. I'm not sure about the new Sea Dweller, but it's not my favorite either, because it has no magnifier over the date field. So that's it.

Didn't we, or someone here figure out that this "gentleman" is actually a group of writers that kind of tag-team on a watch news all taking the same "couture-girl" stance on watches. Meaning nothing is good enough, nothing is cool enough and everything is open to droll criticism. I thought that was the case, I'll dig some more and try and find that post.

Sesquipedalia is the Watch Snob's hallmark. Otherwise, he would not be the proper snob he purports to be.

However, the piece is hardly rambling. The snob's circumstantiality is necessary to tie in all the evidence for his thesis that Rolex seems to be more market driven than it has been in the past.

I don't always agree with the Watch Snob and, quite frankly, he has been known to piss me off, but in this case at least, the snob has accurately assessed the feelings of many Rolex aficionados and offered sage advice on how to accept Rolex for what it is, rather than what we'd like it to be.

I started to read the Watch (S)nob's musings on the SD4K - got about a quarter of the way through it. Kept having to start over, because I wasn't really sure if he was saying anything. At all. Asked myself WTF - silently, then out loud, repeatedly, before my eyes glazed over and I nodded off, cracking my head on the sink next to the toilet where I'd retreated to read the (S)nob in secret. Finally gave up. What did he have to say?

I find it hard to believe that so many people had problems following the snob's narrative.

It is true that some of his literary references are a bit esoteric, but much of it references what should be common knowledge.

I understand that many members don't have time to devote to reading everything in full, especially if one has a prejudice against the author, however taking a little time to google the phrases that the snob uses would be very enlightening.

This article was both informative and entertaining. It's a shame that so many give up so readily.

The watch snob had and always be synonymous with Archie Luxury IMHO. Although watching Archie's ridiculous rants makes me feel sorry for him and me feel like a better person.

I agree and that is the problem. The definition of bad writing is making a point that many people actually agree with that is so badly and irritatingly presented that it turns even the supporters off. His comments are not controversial or thought provoking, they are contrived and affected, the equivalent of soap opera acting not silver screen.
