I travel international every few months and always take my watch off before security.
I see a lot of people wearing them going through but I have always chosen to take mine off. I guess I don't want some security officer in a bad mood telling me to take it off and have to put in on the tray and maybe lose sight of it, or immediate access to it, like we recently had a member here actually witness a guy walk over to his tray, take his watch out of it and walk away. That took ball$ and if there is people willing to do that at an airport then that's crazy...
I always have to take off my belt and remove phone and wallet etc. which I put into my bag, so it's no extra hassle to pop my watch off at the same time.

I learned a few years ago just to put it in the carry-on before getting to the machine. Sometimes it seems there are several people just behind me passing through that anything could happen as far as sticky fingers or accidents.

Just got back from a vacation out of the country. Wore my Explorer during screening and no issues in either airport.

I don't like to take it off and respectfully refuse to do so when asked.
Never any problem with Security insisting on it.
The screening itself will of course not harm your watch.

I am impressed by those who keep an Oakley case I am lucky if I remember underwear and a toothbrush when i am doing short overnight hops.

Never had a problem, but if it turns to custard my plan is to blind the security dude with the bling and reflected light and glory from my YG DD, and then run...........

I wear mine. Recently I wore it in that large body X-ray scanner stand in a jumping jack pose machine with no trouble.

It doesn't hurt it get x rayed whether you remove it or not.

Depends on the amount of metal that I carry on me. Shoes have mostly a metal bar, then the belt, badges with metal clip. This is all the metal that the sensor allows. One more piece of metal will probably light the fifth dot out of 5, the alarm rings and they must pull me aside for a check. I pass those scanners every day of duty, 5-20 times a day, for the last 25 years. Learning this has saved me thousands and thousands of minutes in my life.

I drop it in my carry on with my keys and wallet. Going in to Court, I drop it in the tray with same.

I put it in a soft pocket in my laptop bag where I keep some tissues and take it back out after it's gone through the screener. Helps me get through more quickly.

My watch has been going thru security more than 600 times in the last two years.. dont worry, will be fine.

With the full body scanners it's not an issue. The only requirement is to empty all your pockets of everything, metal or not. I have had a watch occasionally set off the old metal detectors, just like a set of keys in the pockets will sometimes, but haven't been through one of those machines at airport security in a while.

I fly over 130,000 miles / year and decided to buy a pouch to put my watch in. If going through X-ray machine, I keep watch on my wrist. However, if going through metal detector I put watch in its pouch, and pouch inside my carry-on bag.

It shouldn't be no problem because if there were then they would be sued by over a million people that flew with a watch on. So I believe it's made pretty safe for expensive watches

Lol. No I'm saying if the security screen was to mess up people mechanical watches then I'd sue.

I wasn't thinking the OP's question about if it was a problem concerned it damaging a watch, just whether it set off the machine, but I see what you mean now. I guess the scanners are not using magnetic technology or it might be a major problem for sure!

That's because private jets companies don't like to make their clients unhappy... Jk :)

I've only been asked to take off my ROO when flying in Italy. I explained that the movement might get damaged and that it'll cost them a lot. They let me pass w it on.

I remove mine and slip it in one of my leather loafers (Gucci, if you are curious). Keeps away scratches.

I always put in carry on. Used to put in shoe, but was told not to do that, TSA told me looks like shoe bomb? Then one time they made me take my Sinn 857 off and I put it in the small tray and it tipped over and they had to crawl in to find my watch, luckily that watch was bullet proof so no harm done. After those 2 experiences it goes into carry on.
