Buying pre-owned

How important are papers / warranty card when buying a used watch when it's already outside the warranty period? Is it a show stopper, and / or should price be negotiated down more? I've never purchased a used watch before and every watch I sold always included all papers, stickers, tags, etc.

Thanks,
Brian

Depends on the watch. I threw away all the paperwork and cases for my GShocks. The Pateks have full provenance and kit.

I kept a couple G shock boxes/tins and all my rolex/nomos/shinola boxes and papers.

I'm looking at a few differnt watches. I'm looking for a general answer I guess. Let's say watches with an original MSRP over $5k.

In that price range, I'd want B&P. The reason being? If I decided to flip it later, it increase the pool of potential buyers. Some buyers won't even consider one without the full kit.

True.
But you can get a better deal often on no b$p sales and it you're buying to use, not a bad trade off in my opinion.

Risk of it being stolen is higher so I prefer box and papers.

90% of grey / second watches don't have either so don't expect to use this as a negotiating tool. Buy the watch right. There are certain pieces where these items add a lot of value, others where they do not.

Generally I want the complete set at that price range. for something modern. If it's a vintage piece, then probably not.

When buying pre-loved, buy the seller not the watch.
