BBC World News.
Having a quick surf of Auntie's Beebe's news site this lunch time, I was mildly interested to learn that a deadly strain of bird flu had been found in Nigeria. Not really a great surprise I suppose.
Anyway, out of morbid curiosity I clicked the article and confirmed, yup, righto - its the H5N1 mother of all baby-eating strains of bird flu, you know, the one with go faster stripes and front foggies. Guaranteed to eat your lungs in five minutes. Scrolling down this otherwise sensible and straightforward bit of reporting, I found a little 'have your say' box with: Are you a poultry farmer in Nigeria? Has your livestock been affected? Let us know your experiences. As the header. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/4692916.stm Now, what the fek? Are you a Nigerian poultry farmer? of course I'm feking not! I have no inside knowledge, but I wouldn't like to hazard a guess at the number of Nigerian poultry farmers with inter-web access who constantly surf the BBC. One? Three? Eight - any advance on eight? If I was a Nigerian with a PC, I'd be spamming bloody Dutchmen telling them they'd won €9.8 billion on a lottery and requesting immediate details of their bank accounts. Stark staring bonkers. I might just be tempted to post a response under the name A I Ogulowo and see what happens. The bloody world's gone nuts.
