If you took away the MSRP, and took away the already faded hype and perceived exclusivity of the daytona, I'd say GMTIIC = Daytona. They both are equal contenders IMHO. The complication in the daytona seems like a bigger and better deal, but its no where near as practical as the functionality of a GMTIIC, at least for me. Oh, and having a date on your watch goes a long way. GMTIIC also has a lot more sex appeal than an explorer, in my opinion.

-2000th post to say that, so it's not in haste -

Unfortunately I don't have a chrono in mind to suggest, but it's just my two cents. Good luck with your decision!
I actually agree with this statement. I find the Daytona too "shinny", this is a personal test, but I like my watches to be on the more subtle side. I think if you want a chrono, I would personally get a brietling or an omega. I also think that if you want to collect Rolex's exclusively, a GMT is the most versatile watch Rolex makes, I can't imagine a collection without at least one. Next to the ND sub, it probably is the most iconic watch Rolex ever produced...

Probably I will choose Daytona because of its pure sporty look. It is really an iconic time machine.
