2 APs for 1 Rolex?

Thinking of selling my 44mm RG ROO and 40th anniversary Jumbo to fund a platona. Am I crazy?

Well myself not a fan of any of the RO range and not crazy fond of any of the modern Daytona range ,so you must do what you want to do. But be warned if paying retail price for the Platinum Daytona,I would expect you to lose quite a bit of the retail price paid if you ever wanted to sell.

Not in my opinion considering the Platinum Daytona is the new replacement!

Thanks! I do not intend to pay full retail. I have found many sources for a brand new one at around US$55k

Thanks for the input from personal experience. So you don't miss the APs at all? No regrets losing 2 APs for 1 Rolex? If I go ahead I will be exiting AP as well.

Good idea, especially since buying new at a favorable discount.

Flip the 44mm RG ROO but keep the 40th anniversary Jumbo. It doesn't hurt to have a nice AP in the collection. You may have regrets if you flip both.

For me, this is easy. I too am no big fan of those watches being very narrow in preferences, so I would trade in a heartbeat. Provided I didn't take too big a soaking.

I bought both brand new but at very good discounts. I already have a trade value offer towards a platona where I would lose only about US$1.5k total across the two pieces. Of course I would have to top up a little to get the platona.

Totally Crazy

That's certifiable behavior. You have two watches with superior movements, and one, the Jumbo, is an absolute all time icon.

Why buy a watch in pt that has the same movement as its $10k ss equivalent completely beats me. If you really want a chronograph at least get one with a superior movement and look at Patek 5170, 5980, or look at Lange and the Datograph or 1815 Chrono.

Not a big deal if it makes you happier. Just be sure of the move.

No, it is not certifiable. It's about what someone wants to do and what moves them.

If he was trading your watches in, then you could say that.

I'd want to keep the Jumbo and do whatever you need to add the Platona!

He's asking for an opinion. At the very least the OP should go and handle the chrono's I mentioned at an AD and then decide. I would hate to buy the Platona and then discover how wonderful the Pateks and Lange's are.

Saying it's certifiable is an insult. He asked about trading for a Daytona.

Your suggestions may be good ones but he didn't ask about those watches.

You can answer the question in broader terms, not just the narrow one. But if you want the simple answer it's "NO!"

well IMO the platona is just stunning and not a big fan of AP's but the rose AP you have are one of my dreams but seem like you love Rolex from what i see in your collection so if you're sure you wont miss the beast feeling having an AP on the wrist then go for it (Y)

No, but I would consider trading some of your other Rolexes instead. It's nice to round out your collection with at least on AP still in the stable.

It's all about what moves you. And how much you value having an AP in the collection.

Far be it for me to call a fellow watch brother crazy for something he wants to do involving watches.

I did the same thing. Flip my RG AP 44mm to fund the Platona. RG AP 44mm wasn't for me.

Yes, go for the Daytona. No fan of any AP here.
