Cost of insuring our watches...opinions please
I live in France (where all insurance is expensive) and have finally found a company that is prepared to insure my watches.
The cover is all risks and world-wide. The cost works out at minutely under 2% of the value insured (1950€ per year for 100,000€ worth of watches). Please tell me if this sounds cheap/fair/expensive to you. Thanks for your help....it is much appreciated. Clive

If insurance truly is something that's more expensive there than in the US, it's probably pretty close to a fair deal. I can't speak with any knowledge on the cost of things like that in France though.
I have over $30k in jewelry (including several Rolex)insured here in the south eastern US with a very well known company and it costs me under $300 per year total for all items combined, FYI. |

Hi Clive! I am paying 1.5%, so your rate seems reasonable.

In the U.S. the premiums are cheaper at about .75%-1.5%, but I would not have a problem paying 2% if I had to. The peace of mind to be able take your watches anywhere and everywhere, and use them how they are meant to be used, is worth it

Doesn't seem unreasonable Clive. I've been quoting insuring a 5205 (msrp of $46k) and the insurance will be around $1000 per annum. My premium for insured watched (typically only insure those with an msrp above $10k) is nearing the $2k per annum.

I pay about 2% with Jeweler's Mutual. Covers theft, damage (drop, etc.), and "mysterious circumstances".

Imagine you come home tomorrow and there has been a fire. Or a burglary.
That €1950 will seem like a bargain, then. |

I'm paying about 2% for mine. Seems like that's the average.
