Has Rolex changed your behavior?
Since wearing a Rolex, have you changed your watch wearing habits? I'm very aware of who I'm around and if I'm exposing my watch or not. I don't want to give the wrong impression, and be sensitive to the people I work with and people i serve. I wear long sleeves especially at church. I have a GMT II-C so I also cover it as much as possible to prevent scratching the polished center links. I mentioned that I took it off last week to negotiate a price on my new car I bought!(I did get over 7k off!). I don't ever take it off except to scrub in to place a permanent pacemakers! I don't take it off but maybe once or twice a week. Swim, ride, shower, lift at the gym, everthing with it on. I do cover it around extended family.
It is a fact of life that not everyone will rejoice in my prosperity, nor share in my joy. That's my take..... |

Your Rolex changed your behaviour. It made you double post.
Seems to be catching, so I'll post the same thing I just posted: I just wear my Rolex and don't think so much about whether people are noticing my Rolex or not. Although a Rolex watch is made to be worn, I do take if off when I do some work that could scratch it. For all it's worth, I do rejoice in your prosperity, and share your joy! Peace, man!

Owning Rolex watches had made me into the obnoxious, hard to live with snob that I proudly am today.
It makes me feel good. Before retiring to bed, and after kissing my wife goodnight, I watch Rolex Ads on my IPod video to remind me just how special I am now that I have a Rolex, and I could be show jumping, golfing, sailing or just simply being cool and glamorous because I have a 40mm beast strapped to my wrist. Also, the videos help to subliminate good Rolex vibes into my brain so I hopefully dream Rolex dreams. At work, I'm constantly flicking my wrist so that those sitting around in a meeting have their attention caught by the mega-status symbol on my wrist, and hopefully they are demeaned by the whole experience and shamed into removing their inferior quality ETA-based timepieces. I also habitually attend watch functions with a Rolex on each wrist in order to demonstrate their superiority over all other brands, and how none can compare with Rolex in terms of greatness. Hell, sometimes I even wear shorts so I can strap one to each ankle. I have even used my Rolex to confront and challenge would-be muggers, confident in the knowledge that the 904L case and razor sharped polished bezel edges will cut like shuriken (after the magnificent RSC has worked their magic) rendering their efforts at removing my treasured timepiece ineffective. But seriously, I think it's the other way around. My behaviour and my own values have led me to wearing a Rolex, not vice versa, as it's just a watch at the end of the day, a material possession albeit a functional one and one that I'm irrationally enamoured with. It's tough to admit to oneself, but after a few dings and scratches, I think we can ease off the throttle a bit. |

Well said Lee! My Rolexes has changed my behavior as well. That is, they have made me develop OCD and after initially developing OCD, they have worsen it over time. I still have NOT given my watches their first scratches and the thought of doing so is a really scary thought for me. If you ask me they are still in both 99% condition for their respective ages.

The thing is, I'm pretty careful about all my watches, not just Rolex, in fact, if anything, I'm less careful because I kind of like my SubDate looking a bit scratched up and worn, which was the case until the RSC got their greasy fingers on it and turned it into some special forces solar signalling tool.

It seems like the "Rolex bug" has bit us all my friend. We've all been "infected" but ironically were all happy that we are.

Wow Rob, you sure are paranoid about wearing your watch in a lot of situations. Enjoy it brother. Wearing a Rolex has not changed my behavior at all. I enjoy the heck out of wearing it.

It's not just Rolex, it is watch collecting or enthusiasm in general that has turned me in to a mentalist who is not phased at all by spending idiotic amounts of money on wristwatches while according to my wife the kids go without.
I mean why do their trousers have to reach their ankles? Today trousers, next month pedal pushers and by the summer shorts what's wrong with that? I get a new Sub everybody's happy. |

Another point in hand, for the UK's living style My Rolex is the only expensive luxury item I own, my car is 11 years old, my TV's ancient, no cable or satalite TV,

Yes it have.
When I wear a Rolex I don´t need to think about I have a watch on my wrist when I pass a doorpost for example. I will know it can take some beaten. When I wear other watches I have to think about them. Jocke

Has it changed my behavior? Except for the amount of time I spend here when I should be taking care of my kids, I hope it hasn't!

Well, the main thing that's changed with me is that I only take it off when I'm in the shower. Before, I only used to wear a watch when I'd go out of the house. But I guess that has a lot to do with the style.

This post is funny you guys.
Hey, I am ready to buy a new car, after many, many years. WOW, how can you get $7K discount? (It must have been an expensive one) I thought having a ROLEX gave you an edge for negotiation. I never considered taking off my watch to negotiate a price of a car..... any more tips for buying a new car ????? I need some quick refresher course before I walk into the dealership. (I always dread going to the dealer, because they make you wait longer than Kaiser Permanente at the dealership, just to wear you down, so that in the end you'll practically sign away your house saying "Please, just let me get out of here, I'll do anything.") Any advice appreciated. (Taking off the ROLEX is a good start) John |

I'm sorry but I don't believe in dressing down to buy a car and would never take off my Rolex to negotiate the price. I don't feel the brand of watch your wearing has anything to do with the price a dealer is willing to come down to, and if it does then I'm taking my business elsewhere.

I tried quite a bit, KBB, Dealers invoice, Costco. I got on line and threw information out to "my ride.com" they got so many dealers to give me quotes it was great! I got on line and priced every accessory at a dealership that I could find within 50 miles and got the lowest price on every accessory, and got my local dealer to match the price on the lowest quote than match the lowest quote on the accessory's. Over all I saved 7k off the sticker and accessories. Not an expensive car, Honda Pilot. As far as taking off the watch, I remember a great friend of mine (Cardiologist) that owned many homes and apartment buildings. He drove an old Acura and said that if he were to buy a big fancy car that his renters would skip on his rent. When he first bought his car that happened to him time and time again. His also took off his watch before collecting from a late renter. I took heed to that. Sales are sales, the less they come down the more they make. If they think you have money, they think you will just say yes to whatever they deal out. My sale did take three hours! But it was worth it. |

wearing a rolex changed my dressing style..
about 10+ years ago, i used to go to office 90% in short sleeves shirts or T-shirts. after buying the DD YG, whenever i am wearing it, i always wear long sleeves shirts only as it can protect the watch to some extend but more important is that i will not seem to be flashing it unnecessarily. also i can keep it covered under the long sleeves when i am in 'not too safe' places. |

I'll admit I do try to keep my Rolex under wraps depending on who I'm around. I don't take it off but I make a point of keeping it low key. I come from a very humble background and my family is still there so I am very conscious of it when I am around them.
