A Single Red Deepsea...? you must be kidding me
well, I just ran across this website. It's amazing what some people do to try and create some hype to justify asking ridiculous prices for invented so called limited editions. And needless to say, some people will fall for it.

The watch is now sold out; if you have to have one, you're gonna pay the FULL, appreciated, premium on this puppy !!

Well,...it's not a limited edition, those come from the factory. Rather it's to commemorate one of the giants of oceanography.
It's been done before by individuals with much less reputation and expertise in all things Rolex than the collector (and expert) who led the reference. How many threads/posts have we had by people screaming for a little dash of RED on the dial? Like anything else it's in the eye of the beholder. |

That, and the Hillary Tenzing Explorer trio, are all done by the same enthusiast/profiteers.

Watch lovers and Collectors love these watches, so the demand for such pieces goes up every day. The prices reflect those facts. It isn't hype and it does not appear that the thirst for the old Subs and Sea Dwellers can ever be quenched.

I don't know. It's about 3k USD over a D-Blue and there are a LOT less of these than the D-Blue.
Will they go up? Probably, but to me it's a better offering than some I've seen (and in greater numbers). |

I strictly meant red subs and sea dwellers. Didn't click on the link. My apologies.

Personally I like it. I think it's pretty cool. Would I buy one at this price...No. But I al all for customization. No to say, it's very expensive to do something like this, the machine is expensive and there is no room for mistakes...

Shelby, Rousch, Saleen, Calloway all do modifications to factory Fords, Chevys and Dodges with no complaint from enthusiasts........why do Rolex enthusiasts complain when others do mods to Rolex timepieces??? If Rolex came out with this piece, the same guys screaming how awful it is, would line up and gladly empty their pockets and bank accounts for the same exact watch.

Looks pretty good to me, and if people are willing to pay...
I have no problem with customised Rolex watches - after all, they are a mass-produced item and not something rare and unique.

IF Rolex came out with the DSSD with red lettering sales would likely go through the roof. Why they don't release a red lettered dive watch is anyone's guess.
Who knows, maybe Tudor will get the nod and release a red lettered model ? After all they did release the Black Bay which was basically Rolex's way of 're releasing' the big crown Sub...at least in a round about way. |
