Selling My Vintage Rolex - Identification Help Needed
I am very happy to have found this forum. I have a small watch collection which I am selling individually on eBay. I have prepared a description for a vintage Rolex which is below. I would greatly appreciate any help in what it is that I have so that my description is accurate. I am a novice to watches and did my best in the description. I don't know if there are any other details that I am missing. I purchased this watch last year from a watch dealer. The auction doesn't go live until Monday, so I still have some time. Also, please offer any insight into the current market value. Thank you in advance for your help.
Here is a link to my auction description. Please have a look and let me know what you think: http://www.19thcenturyonly.com/ebay/rolex.htm |

Welcome to the forums mrseth! Glad to have you aboard.
As for that vintage DJ, I just saw it and it is a beauty!! I am not an expert when it comes to some vintage models but I believe the information you provided in that link is accurate. I know for certain that those model 6694 Oysterdates were produced mostly throughout the 1960s and into the 1970s and had manual winding movements. My guess on a value for that watch would be about $1800 to around $2000 as they do not hold heir value as well as the sports models from that same time. This estimate is still higher than how much the watch might have been sold for back at that time when it was brand new though. This is just based on your description and pictures and was intended to be a ballpack estimate only. Please do not consider my estimate on its own. Best regards, Jerome

Welcom to TRF! Here are my comments (there are lots of vintage experts here so I stand corrected :-)
1. Year of manufacture should be 1957 4th quarter or 1958. 2. The hour and minute hands look very new. Have they been re-lumed? |

Welcome to TRF!
I'd agree with Kai. Not only do the hands look new. Imho, they also are not original to the watch.

Selling My Vintage Rolex - Identification Help Needed
is the watch considered more valuable if it's from the 1958 era as opposed to it being from the 1970's ? The watch dealer I purchased it from told me that it was from the 1970's. Thanks for all of your help !

Dial is refinished, hands are not original. But otherwise, could be a nice watch for somebody, especially if they are looking for a "daily" until they can put it back to original.

Your welcome, and to answer your question...
I dont think there would be a great difference in resale between an Oysterdate from the 1950s to one in the 1970s. However, if it was all original, any oysterdate from any time period will definitely fetch a higher price.

Also, I forgot to add, having the watch newly serviced does affect the value as an all original parts will sell for more. However, having the watch newly serviced enhances the value again by a small amount.
Good luck with the sale, hope the watch finds a nice home and a wonderful owner.
