Can anyone tell me anything they know about this Watch?
Hello,
I am new to this forum and I had a question about a rolex that belonged to my great uncle. The serial number is 643XXX and the model number is 5501 although I can't seem to find any watch exactly the same. Could anyone help me out with this? Hopefully Ive posted this in the right location, i apologize if I haven't. |

I believe 5501 is an Explorer, and yours looks to have a honeycomb dial. I think yours is very late 50's early 60's? I'm not too familiar with these.....
I'll let more knowledgeable folks share some insight into your watch. Clear and crisp shots of the dial might help. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The 5501 was also a two-tone Air King reference.

Appears to me to be a refinished OP dial frankenstiend into a 5501 AirKing case.

Here is a better picture... Yeah that's what I was thinking is it's a Air-King but then again it looks exactly like an Explorer. When I look the serial number up it says it was made in 1949. |

It can't be 1949. What is the serial number?
Rolex serials reset in the 50s and you have to have an eye for what's what. Post the serial and we'll figure out the date for the case anyway.
