How to protect the watch when face to face trade?

1.Should I let him to inspect the watch on his hand?

2.Should I let him to try the watch on his wrist?(Very easy to run away!!!)

3.Should I take large amount cash or go to bank and transfer?(Afraid black or fake cash)

In my local here, I heard that in XBOX face to face trade,"buyer" robbed the XBOX and ran away. So I am afraid same thing happen to me. A watch is much easier to rake than a XBOX.

Please help.

This. If you don't have one nearby then at least a public place (I always use Starbucks here since it's always crowded) and never bring a large sum of money. I'd rather transfer or go to the bank.

I meet at my bank ...lots of cameras ... deposit the cash right there and then release the watch...

I sold mine in person. Met at a very public place. He actually brought all cash. Kind of funny trying to discreetly count stacks of $100's.
My advice, do whatever you feel comfortable with.

I have done my deals inside my bank..money get deposited (verified non-forged bills) immediately then give the watch...

I have a good relationship with my bank and do it in their private banking area...

honestly...you don't sound like you are comfortable with the person you are dealing with or gotten any references...

first rule of private party deals..don't do it if you even feel just a little fishy or funny about the deal...

if the guy is willing to meet you at a bank with cash in hand...I think that says a lot about his character...

If he is not sure about the watch and needs verification..you two are not comfortable with each other...

I bought my Submariner (via Ebay) met the owner outside his AD, verified the watch inside, strolled down the street to his bank, handed the cash over, he paid it in to his account, he gave me the full kit, shook hands and we went our separate ways

Well, I don't know who the guy is. I just post it on KIJIJI(local 2nd hand market). He offered the highest price. But we didn't talk about where to meet yet.

It doesn't sounds like you really want to do this. You're worried about fake cash and the guy robbing you. Stay home, or meet at a bank or AD.

I met a forum member at a train station, brought cash, he brought a pen to verify bills. Looking back on it, we could have been much smarter, but it worked out. Thanks for not robbing me opaline460

Really? Never heard of an AD wanting to take this on / encouraging (external) sales transactions on their floor.

the problem isn't security of doing the f2f deal, you have many suggestions from seasoned members but imho, the bank is best for safety and currency verification.

the police will tell you to get lost and do your deals elsewhere. the AD (unless they really know you), may do the same.

All the above suggestions are great, but bottom line is use common sense and follow your instincts! If something feels off, whether it be the meeting location, weird change of plans, weird excuses for weirder issues, etc, just bail!

Somewhere inside you will know if something is off. Don't get distracted, keep on point and concentrate on what's happening. Being present minded is key!

Why would Banks, AD's and police stations want to get involved in your watch, car or other pricey transaction sales in their lobby no less. Highly unlikely IMHO.

IMHO, if you are not prepared to let someone try on the watch you are not prepared and/or capable of making a deal like this. Go to a store front, make the deal and take the beating...

I've meet countless people at Starbucks for countless transactions. I make sure we communicate via text and/or phone calls so I have a good contact number and after that "it is what it is".....

If you ask the buyer for a photo so that you'll recognise him when you meet, then you'd also have a photo to show the police in the event of any issue. If he's happy to oblige then you can relax, I think. As others have said - would you buy a watch you couldn't touch?!

the question was solved in the Cretaceous period when Hrgh traded a whacking club for a throwing rock with Grughr. Hrgh let Grughr touch and feel the club and that was the start of trade as we know it.

so yes, the buyer typically wants to touch and feel during a f2f deal just like you want to see the money and/or draft.

Meet at a bank. My bank has double security doors so he won't be able to run off with it. And then you want him to pay the cash directly into your account so no chance of fake money and being followed home by his friends. And get there very early and do not show your ID to him before, as he could have friends waiting for you before you even get into the bank.

Always best to be very cautious, so many scammers/criminals out there nowadays.

While you're at it ask for photos of all his friends cause they are the ones that's going to rob you when you walk away with the cash in your pocket.
