very interesting! do you happen to know the colour changed? The boutique said that before there was lighter variation but in the new dial catalogues there is only the newer, pronounced on.

Absolutely right :) Yes it was at the Rolex boutique and I could have easily gone for the traditional ice blue without diamonds. The "ice ice" blue makes it a bit more discrete and I really preferred with diamonds (which of courses makes it a bit less discrete but heh we live only once and the price difference was minimal).

I absolutely love this aspect of rolex (the possibility to change dials or see different dials) and I am really happy that I went for this one. I already had a patek and a lange in my collection and I can easily say the platinum dd has something more magical to me. There is a reason why rolex gets the crown :)

Yes obviously if you are not a fan of diamonds the other version would have worked better. Perfectly fine to be picky ..especially at this price level. I did spend hours in the boutique before deciding. The service I received was fantastic and there wasn't really any agenda to sell me one or the other.

This is consistent with what the boutique said: that in the past there were some difference between ice blue dials but now they are more standardised toward the darker ice blue. It was intriguing for them too as the watch had arrived no long ago but it is very close to the one in your photo.

Congratulations on your new DDII! Enjoy the watch! As you mentioned, at this price range there are certainly other options from Patek, ALS and others. But a platinum Rolex with its hefty weight is indeed a special watch.

There are indeed different shades of ice blue. The old ones are more silvery and hard to capture the glacier.
Newest ones are VERY blue (IE DD2, PLATONA, etc.).

I prefer the more blatant ice blue (newer), but honestly both are my fav dials of almost any watch so cant go wrong

Yes it is a DDII.

(Nice to look at but seriously too heavy for my small wrist to handle as a daily beater.. I tried on the DD PT 36mm much more manageable.)

Resurrecting this thread....... recently saw these pictures on IG of what seems to be a 118239 with the blue dial from the platinum series. Is this a glacier blue or an ice blue stick dial? Looks great with the flutted bezel












What about this dial below with Roman markers, ice blue or glacier blue?

Currently, the Rolex website has no "Glacier" description listed, but over 20 watches listed with "Ice Blue" in the description.

Thanks Steve. I found one in Ebay with the roman dial (K serial) and the certificate does says glacier blue, so probably that applies to older pieces

I come across this old thread and found my glacier blue platinum DD has lighter shade of blue like yours. I like the this dial very much and it changes depending on the light.

I hope you still keep your platinum DD.

It could however seem silver with a different lighting. This was from the rolex boutique so warranty, origin etc. is not an issue. There was only one with diamond available so there was no way to compare it with others but the overall thinking is that the dial is an "older" ice-blue even if the watch is brand new and arrived at the shop recently.

I spent hours going back and forth to the two versions but I am very happy with the diamond one as it is more special. May be the lighter ice blue makes it a bit more discreet. The sticky dial was too similar to the day-date with leather strap (the green) I already have - so went for the diamond.

My first big rolex purchase. I already have a patek calatrava and a lange and many think that with this budget I could have went a different way (e.g. with the same money you could get a nautilus chrono bicolour) but I don't regret the platinum day date for a second.

To me it is truly special.
On the wrist the weight and the overall look and feel of the watch is spectacular.

If you own /or tried one it would be nice to compare the different tones of ice-blue ? :) Feel free to post some photos!
