Planning on purchasing a SS sub date. Need help deciding
I am planning to get a SS sub date as I really like the look of it but then my concern is: is it better to go with a M serial or earlier series given the price difference?
Other than the chapter king, the bar code, are there any significant differences between the M serial with the earlier ones? On the other hand, should I hold off and wait for the ceramic bezel sub? |

Welcome to TRF!
What differences there would be depends on how far you go back in series...let's just stick with the Z-, and M-series. If you take the mid to late Z-series (say about from summer 2007) and compare it to an M-series, there would be NO difference whatsoever, down to the plastic card certificate. Earlier Sub Dates would have non RBR rehaut, green (hologram) caseback sticker and paperwork certificate. Some say it's more attractive to have the latest series, and if you are to resell your watch, there is some truth to that. However, if the SS Sub Date is gonna be a keeper, I'd go for a Z-series and see if I can make a good deal on it. Best of luck!

Thanks man so a late Z would have a RBR rehaut? I still haven't seen any Z that has it thus far. I am pretty sure it is going to be a keeper.
Btw, is it worthwhile waiting for the ceramic bezel sub? |

Well, it's a matter of personal preference. Personally, I am not too fond of the ceramic bezel. That's one of the reasons as to why I flipped my SS GMT IIc and went back to the classic SD with anodized Aluminium bezel insert. To each his own...
Besides that, no one but Rolex knows IF there will be a "ceramic Sub Date" (although it's very likely to come, imho). It is also likely that you won't see the SS Sub Date with ceramic bezel insert (and other updates) anytime soon, though. Probably, you'd see an updated TT Sub Date first, and finally the SS version. The YG ceramic version is already out there, introduced at the Basel Fair this year. This would at least match the update history of the GMT IIc: First the YG version update ("Anniversary" green dialled one) in 2005, then the TT GMT IIc a year later in 2006 and finally the SS GMT IIc in 2007...

My 16610 Sub is the early Z series, the Euro looking paperwork vs. the plastic card etc as Bo said. You just cannot go wrong with this timepiece. Other than the ss Date/Datejust you just can't go wrong imo.

i like the rehaut rolex branding(a/k/a 'chapter ring' branding), and that means a late Z or M sub date. some people just don't like that RRB stuff. sounds like that determines the purchase you make.

As stated, no one but Rolex knows. An SS Sub Date coming as the last updated Sub Date is just a theory of mine, based on what happened with the GMT IIc's.
