2. I would agree with you on the price although there isn't the number of DD2 for sale in proportion to the DD check for example Chrono24 and see page after page how many DD you can count and how many DD2 a big part of that is age obviously but even if you looked at the newer models its still much more available |

And I like that the platinum on the new DD40 has the smooth bezel. Not at all a fan of the other bezel. So Mike, when are you "upgrading"???😃 With Tudor making the Pelagos in blue maybe I can get a good deal on the "old" DD2 and get the "Kilyung Starter Kit" going?? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

DD40 is perfect replacement of original DD. DDII is unique in its own way.

I just watched a blog to watches video on it and they said they just updated with these ceramic sleeves! The way he said it, it sounded like it was a new introduction! Thanks for the info |

From the perspective of the new Rolex management the DDII was clearly a mistake, otherwise it would not have been discontinued and replaced by an all new model after such an extremely short production run.
The 'problem' with the DDII has never been the size but the proportions. The relation between dial size and bezel is 'off'. Not by much but when you compare it to the DD36 it is quite evident. It is that 'mistake' that has been corrected today and they did a superb job ! The new movement is the icing on the cake. My opinion of course !

The 36mm is a classic. The 41mm just another oversized fade.

I think DD2 wasn't a mistake but a transitional model. I didn't know it had ceramic inserts, that's cool.

I won't say that the DD2 was a mistake, but the DD40 is an awesome update. The size difference is next to nothing, but the proportions on the new model are perfect. Combined with the updated movement, I think this is a great update.
I hope Rolex does something similar with the DJ2 next year. |

I can't agree that the DD2 was a mistake. It brought Rolex to another level when the sales started rolling in. For a while customers were looking elsewhere when they could only get a 36mm DD. I still adore the DD2, and hope to get one if the prices drop once the DD40 becomes available to the public.

I reckon DJ2 will get the bullet next year. They've got the new OP case that would do the job perfectly for a large DJ and get the proportionality back closer to those of the original 36mm.

.
Ceramic inserts introduced in 2008 for platinum 83216 bracelet only. Same inserts in the Daytona Platinum 78596 bracelet 2 years ago. With the new DD 40 (as well as the new DJ 39mm Pearlmaster) , it's the 1st time Rolex use these ceramic inserts not only for platinum bracelets but also for gold bracelets. |
