HELP: Rolex GMT Master 16700 date change at 12 noon

Hi all,

Just got a Rolex GMT Master 16700. Having a little trouble with the date function and wondering if anyone has advice for me. The date seems to change every time the GMT hand passes the 12'o clock position. Which is kind of annoying as I am not living in GMT 0 timezone. Note that the GMT hand of the 16700 is not independent of the hour hand.

Am I setting the date wrongly? Does anyone have a fix for this?

Any help would be great thanks.

The hands were not stacked properly when they were placed on the dial. Have a watchmaker place them on properly and all should be fine.

Thanks Springer. So its nothing to do with how I am adjusting the watch..

It would be a brave man to disagree with Mr GMT Springer, but I would proffer that the 16700 has no independent 24hr hand being that it is a gmt master and not gmt master ii. The 16710 was the model with the independent 24hr hand. Your watch is behaving as it should.

Yes it doesnt have an independent 24hr hand. So how to i sort it out? I don't really want to read the time with the GMT hand in my own timezone.

X2. The 24-hour hand can not be independently set. The easiest way to set the hands when placing them on the dial is to have them all at midnight. Normally the watch is wound until the date changes - when it changes, it is midnight, and then, the hands are placed on the dial at the midnight position. Once the hands have been placed on the dial, the watch is wound until the date changes again to make sure everything is changing correctly.

Just been re-reading the OP. I'm a little confused. It sounds like your date is changing at 12 midnight, not 12 noon. 12 noon would be with the 24hr hand pointing down at 6 on the dial. If it's pointing to 12 at changeover then this would be midnight. However, does the 24hr hand go round the dial once every date change it twice? If once then this is correct. If twice then it sounds like the hands are indeed stacked wrong.

What i mean by changing at 12 noon is it is changing at 12 noon at the timezone i am at. This coincides with the 24 hr hand pointing at the 12 o'lock position.

This is frustrating because I will be looking at the wrong date the entire morning where I am based. Does that make sense?

The next time the date changes at "noon," why not just wind it forward 12 hours, then correct the date? Maybe I'm missing something.

I'm an astronomer and I work on Greenwich Mean astronomical time,
so the above is all normal for me. My new day starts at noon GMT.
My GMT 16710 always runs on GMAT.
