I have read here several times that the DDII is getting the axe following the announcement of the DD40.

The DDII still appears on the Rolex website and any AD I've asked has not been able to confirm.

I think it will, new movement and only 1 mm difference makes it at least inevitable?

Yes but I can see it staying in the line up. That watch covers a whole demographic that I don't see Rolex wanting to lose. The hip hop community loves the DDII or the "big face" Rolex.

We were told that it was confirmed at Basel by Rolex.

It was confirmed by James Dowling on TZ (aka Mr Rolex) during his meeting with Rolex SA at Basel. My AD also confirmed it upon returning from Basel. I imagine the DD41 will remain on the website for some time while inventory lasts.

Who knows with Rolex, but it they keep isthe DDII in the lineup it means that they would have three versions of the same watch.

With all due respect I don't think Rolex caters for the "Hip-Hop" community.

They only cater to Rock n' Rollers, preferably Aerosmith.

I'm a pimp - you can check my stats - I roll in a fleetwood that's how I Mac - I work hard each day to write all the checks - and that's how come I wear a Rolex. The DD2 maybe a thing of the past - but while it was here it sure was a blast.

Yes, probably will still be on the site this year, maybe not next.

I don't think Rolex will waste the ddii name but they will bring it in line I believe with the Ymii gmtii expii etc and add functions.

Curiously, why did Rolex choose dd40 if indeed it is a replacement for dd2?

Why not simply call it dd2? Like they did with sub. Or even dd3 ?

So AD's can sell off their DD2's without it being the "old DD2."

It seems that Rolex has settled on calling out the diameter of models that are differentiated mainly by size. I like that approach.

It was never really a "II" in the sense of the GMT-Master II or Explorer II or Yachtmaster II, which have different functionality.
