Goodbye, white gold sub... hello?

Something very strange has happened the last year. I have lost my wandering eye. I downsized my collection a fair bit about a year ago. I had too many watches I was collecting, but not wearing. I bought a white gold meteorite Day-Date that I've wanted for a while, and I bought a white gold sub. Since that time, the DD has dominated my wrist.

We went mountain biking, hot tubbing, dirt biking, boating, skiing, working and playing, and through the vast majority of it, I wore my DD. I went to Brisbane, Hong Kong, Dublin, Paris... great opportunities to use my GMT IIc. It stayed on the winder, and I wore the DD.

Every time I wore the Sub it was prefaced by thinking, "I have a $40,000 watch on the winder... I should probably wear it sometimes."

So, I've sold the blue Sub. I am selling the GMT. I am selling my Speedmaster. I am getting rid of everything except a sentimental DJ, a G-Shock, and my DD.

There's a part of me that says I really need a good sport watch, and I may get a Platona this summer. Or maybe I'll turn into one of those "old guys with one nice watch."

Thanks for listening to me ramble, and chime in if you've "lost that loving feeling" and downsized without regret.

I wish I could be a one watch guy.....different activities, attire, occasions has lead me to a bit of a varied collection. My grail would be a Platinum DD but I could never imagine my life with out a submariner so a one watch guy I will never be.
I salute you for finally getting to a point where one is enough.....If that were ever happen to me, that one watch would be my most prized possession to pass down to my son.

I'm headed that way myself. Fortunately for my wallet, I'm a fan of steel.

I mostly find myself wearing three watches. A nice daily sports watch, a beater and a dress watch are all I need or wear. If I wasn't traveling so much I'd have downsized already, I think.

I can definitely relate. I find myself going through the same thought process, or at least very similar...I even went through a period in the last couple of months of telling myself, you can have any 1 watch you want, it just has to be "the one". Still thinking on that...

Anyway, glad you have found it and it is spectacular. And glad you've debunked the myth that the DD is just a dress watch and not a sports watch.

Down to 2 watches from 4 a few years ago. Just a AP RO 15400 and a PAM 000. The AP dominates my wrist time. The PAM will probably see more duty, now that the weather is warmer, as a casual watch especially with the rubber strap.

Frankly if the RO did not veer to the dressy side, I would ditch the PAM and wear the AP 7 days a week.

There have been others vying for a sot on my wrist since I packed a IWC and a Rolex Sub off for the RO, a few Omegas, a nice Tudor BB. But the reality is you ( I ) can only wear so many watches. If one piece dominates so much of my wrist time, what is the point of having thousands tied up in things that don't get used.

I know this goes against the grain of many members of this forum. And more power to all of you with your multi watch collection, it allows me to drool and stare and admire what you have acquired ; but beyond drooling I am just not that into watches anymore. I say watchES, because like the OP I really want to build a rapport with my one main watch. Wear it. Have it become a fixture on my wrist.....

Then again I keep on fantasizing about trading the PAM for a SD 4000....

Stop thinking "I have a $xxx watch on the winder" and enjoy the piece you're wearing. As you're obviously very aware of whats out there and the PM bug has a solid grip: i do love the Platona idea as a sports watch. Bummer the surf didn't make it, so maybe a SDc as a beater?? Or maybe it's an Explorer I or II Polar, simple and straight forward. And clearly nothing can compete with the DD you're wearing right now...
