Hey all

1. How strong is the clasp on the president bracelet? I take the watch off almost daily (eg to rinse it, or when I take a bath). Gold is weak. Will the clasp break? My previous Rolex had a Jubilee bracelet and that was fine.

2. Do I have any options with the face? It's a tritium face but after ca 20 years the tritium hardly makes the dial glow anymore. Now what? Never see time at night?

Michael, the newer clasp is quite strong. From the picture, your President should have the older clasp. The older clasp is also strong and will not break either.

Oh, good; thanks. Yes, it is the older clasp; the watch is 20 years old.

Tritium dials were finally discontinued about 1998. If you were to send your watch to Rolex for service, and were to get an new dial with new hands, they would be made with Superluminova, which will glow brightly for a while and then require recharging with light. There may be some debate as to whether or not you would wish to change a vintage dial like yours, I would seek the advice of some members more knoweledgable regarding the DD.

The only part of the clasp that I had a minor problem with.
Was were it was secured, but I got round that by getting a slim width screwdriver and pushing in between the 2 pieces.
I hope that this makes sense to you, it should if you look at the clasp!

Yes, that makes sense. I am not having problems now, but since I wear the watch 24.7 but take it off after showering to rinse and dry off, I take it off daily: 365 times a year...

My 18238 is from 1997 and the lume on the face is OK but not as bright as I would like. The black face is elegant but I am going to swap it for a lighter face with Roman numerals. Takes too long for me to tell the time in the dark until my eyes adjust and a lighter face is easier (that is what I have on my Air King).
