VC Overseas in Comparison to the Daytona

Seth, get the VC, you won't regret it.
I had a similar dilemma last year, Daytona vs OS.....after serious thought I went for the OS and have not looked back.As the matter of fact I'm wearing my OSC as I type this.
I wanted to shrink my collection down to 4-5 pieces, and I needed a kickass Chrono......I chose wisely

Get it!!! There is something about Vacheron that just sets it apart - similar to AP and PP.

For me the VC is the best looking sports chrono:
- Overall design like the maltese cross theme on bracelet and bezel, guilloche dial - although this is only on black and white, the blue is smooth. My preference would be the white dial.
- The 42mm size I think is perfect for a chrono - with 40mm the sub dials are a bit too small for me to read. I also have large 7.5" wrists so I can wear 42mm.
- Big date complication

Also the fact it is less common than the Daytona and RO make it more special.

The only thing that bugs me a bit, which is why I haven't bought this already, is the FP movement from the house of Swatch. I think there are better chronograph movements these days, and I am waiting to see what SIHH 2016 brings - most likely an update of the Overseas with an in house movement (possibly similar to that of the Harmony chrono introduced this year).

The in house movement isn't a big issue for me. BUT, I think this is in house. Am I wrong.

The Vacheron 1137 movement on the overseas chrono is based on the Frederic Piguet 1185. This is a brand that actually no longer exists as it has been absorbed by Blancpain, part of the Swatch group. Vacheron customise the movement, including adding the big date. The other Overseas (without chrono) also have movements that are not in-house, but in this case they are from JLC.

You can see this if you go to the Vacheron website - all of the chronos including the Traditionnelle do not have the hallmark of Geneva as they are not made by VC.

They released the first in house chrono movements last January at SIHH with the Harmony collection, but these are limited editions and not listed in their website.

The expectation is that next year the in house chrono movement will trickle down to the normal collections. Next year is also the 20th anniversary of the Overseas, and VC have semi officially announced that the Overseas will see a big refresh.

So personally I am waiting to see what SIHH 2016 will bring.

On the downside, if VC does switch to an in house movement, it is very likely that there will be a significant price increase.

The Daytona was not for me. Too small, and no date was killing me.
And the bracelet is amazing on the OS

This for sure. A VC Overseas is the only watch I have ever sold and regret terribly. The overall quality of VC is something special. It is quite a heft watch but oh so comfortable...no rush...try one on when your schedule permits.

You can pick up a slightly older VC Overseas which is in 40mm. The reference number is:

I have owned both, Daytona and Overseas (auto not chrono).

The VC wears a LOT bigger and I would much rather own again the Daytona, enjoy what you have, in this case the grass is not greener on the other side so don't even sweat it.

A little stream outside Jackson, Wyoming.

I have 6 3/4 ish wrists and it wears great on the rubber strap. I tried to love the gray croc but couldn't and went back to the rubber. The bracelet looks great with my gray dial, but not sure I want to spend what they cost.

The blue dial is very, very sharp.
