Just What are "Trusted Sellers"?
Are they individuals who are constantly making bad choices in their purchases thereby requiring them to constantly flip? Or are they individuals who are resellers of used watches purchased from various sources?
Whatever the answer, I myself would rather pay full price at an AD who I can instruct to order me what I want and let me open the plastic coffin that the watch arrives in instead of having it baking in a showcase or worse in a window receiving direct sunlight. Also I don't like the idea of a watch that I purchased from an AD having been handled by others including people who have just finished walking their dog. It seems that the only rational for dealing with "Trusted Sellers" is if you are interested in a vintage watch or a more recent one which is no longer available to purchase new. This is an expensive hobby and it seems strange that saving money enters into the mix. If you want to save money, consider buying fewer watches. |

For the most part they are professional watch dealers and the "trusted sellers" on TRF are true gentlemen. I have dealt with most of them and can attest to that personally. OK, no issue to buy new and pay the premium. I have bought plenty of new watches and plenty of pre-owned watches. We need to keep ADs in business so go ahead. Note that the professional dealers I reference above also sell new watches. It seems that the only rational for dealing with "Trusted Sellers" is if you are interested in a vintage watch or a more recent one which is no longer available to purchase new. Yes, this is of course a good reason to go to a watch dealer. This is an expensive hobby and it seems strange that saving money enters into the mix. If you want to save money, consider buying fewer watches. Disagree. I like "saving" money on my watch purchases so long as I can get a full set, mint condition and from one of the trusted sellers I reference above. Buying fewer watches ..... not an option...

Professional watch dealers selling new Rolex watches who are not AD's?
Is this the so called grey market and where do they get the watches? I presume legally or you would not be referring to them. Do these watches come with a full Rolex warranty? |

Correct. Is this the so called grey market and where do they get the watches? I presume legally or you would not be referring to them. Correct. The dealers have connections with ADs and ADs move inventory through them for diverse reasons. Legally? Yes, of course. In breach of agreements with rolex, however. Do these watches come with a full Rolex warranty? Yes. Sometimes ADs will insist on stamping the warranty cards or dating them and others will sell the watches with the warranty cards blank and our professional dealer friends will date and fill in the warranty card when they sell you the watch.

These watches aren't gray, as they come from ADs. Ads sell them to trusted sellers at a discounted price then trusted sellers sell them to us and make a few hundred a pop. They do big volumes so it's a win for them and the AD supplying them

Do some research. You have a lot to learn. I just bought a sub from a trusted seller. Over 1 k less than I would have paid at my local Ad, who I've bought 3 rolexes from previously. Stickers still in place. Warranty dated 5/29/2015 and good for 2 years from that point. THATS why we buy from trusted sellers. I'll post a new thread tomorrow when I get the watch detailing the seller and how they went above and beyond to make me happy.

This thread seems to be combative.
I think I'll just make my few comments and leave it be. I've flipped a ton, made minimal mistakes, have enjoyed the hobby, and appreciate the trusted sellers I buy from. And to each their own. Depends on what you prefer.

For the most part the watches come with full Rolex warranties. Where the trusted sellers source their watches, I couldn't tell you. You are certainly at liberty to buy from an AD; no one would stop you from doing that. But the trusted sellers here can save you a thousand to several or more thousands off the retail price and for that, people here are willing to deal with them.

"Trusted Sellers" buy huge quantities of watches from Ads that they have developed relationships with. Remember, not all ADs can move their monthly allocation of watches from Rolex. Especially in slower markets. It is a win win scenario for the sellers and us buyers. Now do you understand? |

X1000 couldnt agree more. It's hard for me to understand how some people get bent over the "trusted seller" thing. To each his own.

The tone of the post was definitely combative.
This has been discussed to death and the search function needs to be used. The concept of the trusted sellers is not very difficult to understand. It's extremely easy. I'll just say this. People often talk about building a relationship with an AD, getting discounts and all that good stuff. A trusted seller is someone who already has that relationship and one that the average person could never hope to achieve. The trusted seller is simply the facilitator to get you what you want. Most of the time the I feel that the people questioning the trusted sellers with this kind of tone or those who insist that an AD is the only way to get a Rolex are extremely insecure or they are being obtuse on purpose. Obviously that doesn't apply to everyone but it often feels that way.

I saved $1500 and no tax on my subc which is roughly 20 percent. Got my watch in the clear plastic coffin with warranty and all. Go ahead go to the dealer if you think its the only way. Money is money and i would rather not waste it needlessly. Sometimes you need to hack the system these watches are already massively expensive. I dont care how "rich" you are 1500 dollars is 1500 dollars lol

The OP has made me see the light, I will no longer buy from any of these dog-walking coffin-dodging sellers, no just full retail and a false smile for me from now on.

So far I only have one Rolex.. and when I get my next one I can almost assure you it will be from a "Trusted Seller".
Why pay thousands more for the same thing? Yes watches are an expensive hobby and just beacuse one may have the means to pay more it doesn't mean you should. Being smart with money is how you aquire more. |

Non-combatitive innocent/newbie-oid questions:
I ended up buying my BLNR from a local AD; I just felt that for my very first Rolex I needed to establish a relationship locally, and they did have the watch I was looking for. Now, let's say I decided that one Rolex wasn't enough (not quite there yet!), and I wanted, say, a Submariner 114060. At this point I have now spent enough time here to begin to have some clue regarding trusted sellers, Rolex in general, etc. So, if I purchased from a trusted seller: - Would the warranty be in my name, like the card on my current watch? - If I needed warranty work, where would I need to bring/send it? - Would the trusted seller size the watch for me, or do I need to take it somewhere locally? - If there was some immediate issue with the watch, would the seller take it back or would I have to (again) go the warranty route? Respectfully submitted. |

When I have been at a dealer, they just about immediately wipe them down and return them to the case after showing me any given watch. I can't see any harm in that. As someone else said, saving $1000 of the top (or more, depending on the watch) and not paying my state its 8% makes me happy. |

A Few Points
These comments are prompted by various statements made by others in this thread.
I am NOT an AD. I consider it amusing that I was suspected to be so by some of you. I consider that a watch being displayed in an AD's window receiving direct sun is an abuse to the watch and no one should infer from that, that I consider a watch being worn outside and receiving direct sunlight is being harmed. I now understand more about what a trusted seller is but am unclear why state taxes are not due when purchasing from them unless they are paying it for you and that is included in their pricing. |

AIUI the warranty is not specific to the store you bought it from so you can take a watch in to any AD if it requires warranty work or service and they should take care of you. Or you can send straight to an RSC.

I bought my Rolex from a Trusted Seller off of this forum. Saved a nice amount of money, and he sized it for me on the spot.
