Great AD Experience

I went to pick up my just serviced Explorer yesterday at Sydney Thomas in the Short Hills Mall.

I do not remember the name of the woman that helped me, but she was fantastic. Very pretty, knowledgeable, young blond girl.

I also had to check out the stock and I spoke in length with a gentleman named Chris.

Both of them were amazing. And while it was clear they would have liked to make the sale, their priority as taking care of the customer. My wife and I tried on quite a few models and we spoke about the new slew.

Apparently both Chris and the hot blond just went to visit with Rolex and got to try on all the new watches. I am told the DD40 is sublime in every iteration.

BUT, I was told the YM is really the show stopper. The watch is supposedly super comfy and looks fantastic. He seriously said the YM was nicer than the DD40.

I was, and still am, interested in getting the RG Daytona and putting it on a RubberB. And again, while Chris would have liked to make a sale, he was very specific to tell me it is smart to wait and check out the new YM because it is just that nice.

He said this knowing that I am probably low on the list as I am very new to this AD. So knowing that I probably would not even be able to buy it from him, he still advised me to check it out before making a purchase.

We get a lot of AD bashing on here and I thought it would be good to share this exceptional experience.

They also have a huge stock and appear to be very knowledgeable. I was very impressed.

And FWIW, I was dressed pretty much like a bum. The wife looked smoking hot in her new dress, so that might have helped me get some respect, but I think that the store is just that good.

I give them two thumbs up and tons of respect. Highly recommend them.

And more than that, I am really anticipating the YM!!!

Nice, I go there from time to time, also spoken with Chris. He is all that a sales rep should be: knowledgeable and friendly, and makes the watches very accessible. He took the time to show me and my wife a full demo of the SkyDweller, knowing it's not necessarily on my short list. 'Here, just try it on, it's a interesting piece, and very underappreciated'. I guess it helps when I'm wearing one of my Rolex's, but he is very attentive to customers.

The Omega boutique in the Mall isn't the same.

you got it brother.

and got a little pricing too:

YM - $24,950
DD40 WG - $37,550
DD40 YG - $34,850

Not sure if these prices have been posted yet. The price difference alone is a compelling reason to push the YM to the leader of the pack for me.

^ Nice, thanks for the numbers.

I will say, especially since you have the chrono covered by your stunning VC, new YM + Oysterflex > ceramic Daytona + RubberB.....

New YM seems nice but I don't think that's gonna stop me getting a RG Daytona on strap this year.

This would mean at $34,850 the DD40 YG is the exact same price as the DDII YG.

Given the retail prices are not too far off (currently at $28k or so), I think the Daytona is a better buy.

I too think the YM in RG looks amazing, but no contest next to the Daytona.

I wish all the ADs would be like them. Sometimes I'm afraid to go into an AD because of all the horror stories I've read here.

As is pretty typical for me, my mind changes like the wind. I am all over the map and I go back and forth. But for my next watch, I really think its going to be a colored gold. As much as I love the DD40, I already have the DD2 that my father wears.

I am loving the Daytona. It felt amazing on the wrist...and looked even better.

I do think its prudent to wait and see how I feel about the YM first.

We shall see if I can last that long.

Good times, Seth. Good to hear a positive experience for a change.

You know, I travel quite a bit and like to swing by the occasional AD...and almost always have a good experience. A little eye candy never hurts either...

Gravy on top of the turkey plus a little cranberry sauce. Never hurt to have a little bonus on the side...

They have a good selection and I agree, all the times I have gone in they all seem very nice. The question will be how competitive they will be in making the sale...

Glad you had a good time at the AD. It is a shame that many AD's do not have the staff that are knowledgable enough. My contact at the AD I frequent is extemely knowledgable and customer service oriented. He has been selling Rolex watches since 1978. Some of the staff at that location leave much to be desired, but overall, that AD is one of the best in the City.

Yes and price on the Daytona will be much better if I hold out for a good deal, YM probably won't have much movement for a while. And while the YM's bezel is intriguing the RG numbers on black ceramic is probably the most attractive bezel I have seen.

As for AD bashing and lack of knowledge I have the exact opposite problem, my fav AD knows too damn much as a senior member here and is also pretty tough on pricing no matter how much I play the - "we few, we happy few, we band of TRF brothers" card.

Been to this AD before at the Short Hills Mall. They really are a great staff. They knew I wasn't interested in purchasing at the time and when I tried to let them go to speak with other customers, the older salesman assured me he just liked talking watches.

I'm not sure I'll ever find the occasion to purchase from them but I'd recommend Sydney Thomas to anyone.
