What's your budget like--get him a Daytona (stainless steel); it will hold its value and has a nice "busy" and sporty dial most men will like imo

Best to take him to the ADs and let him pick, but if you want to maintain an element of surprise then show him two stock pics of the watches and let him choose, then when you buy him the real one it will still have a great impact as these watches are so much better in the flesh.

Agreed, you should let him pick. If you want the element of surprise, take him to your local AD under the guise of asking him if he likes nice watches. Let him try on what he likes, and then hit him with the surprise when you bring out your wallet to pay

I would say the odds will favor going with the GMT...unless you think he might prefer a dressier watch for some reason.

BLNR.
AD's I've gone to will leave the card blank on the Rolex I purchased for her so that I can bring my spouse in to see if she likes the model or wants to exchange for a different model. Then, AD will write her name on the warranty card of whichever model she actually wants.

If you're shopping an AD you could do what my wife did several years ago.
Explain to the AD that your husband may want a different model. Then surprise hubby with a Rolex but let him know that if he can take it back to the AD for a different watch if he so desires. I ended up keeping the watch my wife had wrapped up but as long as I'd kept stickers et al intact I could've returned it for a different reference. Oh, and by the way, I think he'd love the BLNR GMT. |

Thank you all! I know I cannot and will not spend more than the DJ2 or BLNR costs....Daytona sounds aweosome and its an absolutely stunning watch however it's funny when i think of a Daytona I think of like a CEO type gentleman or a younger wealthier music mogul or something. My hubbys personality I think would go well with BLNR. He also loves color. Like he has the 50th Ann sub for example.

There is a half-way house between letting him choose and choosing it for him. I suggest that you choose for him and then take him into the AD for the full collection experience, and tell him that if he wants to change you won’t be offended. The chances are he will go with your choice, and it will mean a lot to him that you’ve chosen it.
I did this with my wife and it worked out perfectly. Her view is that it’s our money so the purchase of gifts doesn’t mean a lot, it’s the thought and effort that goes into it that means something. She knows I went into the AD six times and spent over an hour each time during the decision making process to make it perfect, I even contacted four of her friends and had discussions with them about it. That’s wat made it special for her. The fact that you’re using a forum is super-cool and he will really appreciate that. All the best.

GMT all the way. It can be worn for dress or sport, is not as common and 40mm is a GREAT all around size. Also, it is a "younger" watch. You are an AWESOME wife for getting your hubby such a gift. He is a very lucky guy...who has made at least one great choice of his own!

I'm young and of course I would be happy with a gmt, but I would prefer a DJ, it's much better looking and just as versatile imo.
So please let the husband choose. |
