They offered to let me return my watch entirely to buy another, so I can get a new dated warranty card for after 7/1 and 5 year warranty. But they're gonna talk to their buyer tomorrow and see what can be done to avoid having me take advantage of their 90-day return policy.

Having spent over $9.5K with tax for a watch 3 weeks ago, I'm not gonna sit back and take a 3-yr warranty when everyone else is now getting a 5-yr after July 1st.

I bought my BLNR last week and before I went in to get I called and asked my sales rep about the new 5 year. He of course said he hadn't heard anything but he and I both knew. So when I got to the store he said he would honor the 5 year warranty. I will reply back here after I go in to see him tomorrow to see what he does to honor it.

Same reasons Rolex requires replaced parts to be returned. 1) They can't be sold on eBay etc. 2) They can't be put in a package with a fake watch trying to pass off as genuine

10 yr service interval

I have heard in the past that servicing watches is necessary not only due to wear but due to the fact that the oils within the watch will start to breakdown after a couple of years. Any truth to that statement? If so 10 years would seem like quite a stretch prior to being serviced.

Sounds like you're in a good situation with line of sight to getting the 5-yr warranty for your new purchase. If/when you return your Hulk, wonder what your returned watch would be treated as: Brand-new (especially since you haven't worn it or removed the stickers in keeping with their return policy), or used? If brand-new, presumably it will be sold as such, with a new green-tag, to someone else. If so, wouldn't it be most sensible to sell that specific watch back to you, with a green-tag, especially since that it what you want?

I don't understand 2 warranty's difference exactly..
so if I bought 01/07/2015, in that case 5yr sales warranty

and if I get service by RSC on 07/01/2019, service warranty will remain until 06/30/2021?

and service interval means that we should check our Rolex every 10yrs??

All my 3 watches are modern watches and I think they are good for 10 years even though bought in last 3 years.

You buy Rolex on July 1, 2015. You have 5 years Warranty - till July 1, 2020.

Your recommended Service due date is around July 1, 2025. Once you do that Service, you have 2 years service warranty - July 1, 2027(but by then rules will again change).

Why all the concern?

Rolex watches work without trouble for 10 years so IMHO the warranty is more a gimmick than a value increaser.

How come longer service intervals? Surely watches sold on the 30 of June and 1st of July follow the same production process and thus offer the same reliability...? Is it safe to say that all recently produced Rolex watches only need 10 years service intervals?

Return the tags and the booklets? Yes. sir! I'll give you anything you want! What about the boxes? Oh, and thanks for the warranty extension :-)

Unfortunately the best my AD can do is have me return the Hulk and give me a new one, since I'm only 3 weeks into the 90 day return period. They have no mechanism to take the old warranty card and get me a new one. And if they send it back, and it's confirmed unsized/unworn with all the stickers then it will get a new warranty card, but they have no mechanism to be sure that this particular AD (Ben Bridge) will receive my exact watch back after 2-4 weeks.

On top of that, for them to order a new Hulk from another one of their stores, I have to drive 80 miles tomorrow to Denver to return mine first, and wait until Friday or Saturday for the new one to come in, then go back to pick it up. Then, I have to hope that it only gains the same +0.2 to +1.0 sec/day on the winder like my current watch.

I never sized or wore my Hulk because I was considering swapping it for a white dial SS Daytona during the return period. Last week I decided I wanted the date window and glide-lock bracelet too much to switch to a Daytona, but then I heard about the warranty update so I waited even longer before wearing it.

So those are my options - a new Hulk and have my AD regulate it if I don't like the timekeeping as much as my old one, or I can keep this $9,663 watch (after tax) with 3 year warranty while someone who buys the same watch 3 weeks after me gets the full 5 years. I believe that they should have awarded a 5 year warranty to anyone who bought within 30-90 days from the announcement, or at least to those who are still within the return period.

Doc,whenever they make a change like this some people are going fall outside of one cut-off or another. In your case you bought the watch completely satisfied that you were getting a two year warranty and now find you are getting three.

From what I can tell they've given you reasonable options including a brand new watch with a five year warranty. So take your pick. It may be a little inconvenient, but that's up to you to decide. Either way you'll end up with a great watch with a better warranty than came with it when you bought it.

I do think it's great that Rolex is giving people a 3-yr warranty on their watches bought after June 30th 2013 but before July 1st 2015. I don't want to sound ungrateful.

I just think that the 5-yr warranty should be available to people who are still in their 30-90 day return period, after buying one this close to the transition to 5-yr. When we buy software and a new version comes out, they almost always offer the new version to those who bought it within 90 days of the "surprise" release.

I understand what you are saying but I don't believe Rolex has anything to do with the 90 day return policy, isn't that from the retailer? Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think every Rolex sold worldwide comes with a 90 day right of return.

that means every rolex that is not purchased from an AD will not get 5 years warranty ? grey market etc ? At least not until old stocks depleted ? I assumed only AD got that seal and new booklets ..

At some point the age of the buyer negates the benefit of long term warranties...
...some of us won't even buy green bananas.

I'd like to bring us back to the actual wording of the letter regarding time frame between service intervals - the typical interval is approximately 10 years.

This can mean different things and is not stated as a "recommended" interval. I believe it is a YMMV type of recognition of actual performance observed in the recent past with the newer models.

If you own an older Rolex - say one manufactured in the 20th Century - then the old 5-year interval is perhaps more apt. This has more to do with materials, design, milling tolerances, etc. than it does with quality. Mechanisms made to better standards tend to operate correctly for longer periods.
